Hubby's netwok connection woes
by Guest machinemessiah- 11 replies

Hubby just got himself a 64 bit Windows 7 machine from Dell. He's been having trouble staying on line. After several loud arguments I finally convinced him that the source of his problem had to be in his pc, not our router or home network which has been running fine for several years. Vonage phone works fine, my XP Pro& Home machines aren't having any connectivity issues. My only experiece with Windows 7 has been running the network trouble shooter on HIS pc and changing the type of network from "Public" to "Home". Also trurned off the power saving feature on the network card. If my technically challenged spouse gets booted offline again sho…

I love Win7, but there are a ton of little awkward things when moving up from XP. I'll see if I can describe this particular annoyance: When saving a file, with a lot of folders listed in the dialog, good old "XP" would descend into a folder with a simple double-click. Simple and intuitive. Not so with Win7. When double-clicking a file that's on the right side of the dialog, the first click gets routed to 'reposition'...IOW, it scrolls the whole folder list to the left. So then, of course, the second click of the double-click gets routed instead to another folder that has now been moved under the mouse cursor. So the second folder …

AT&T SCREWS ITS CUSTOMERS!
by Guest Whistleblower- 24 replies

As they screw over their ISP customers, you can be sure sooner or later they'll screw their cellphone customers too! BEWARE OF and AVOID doing business with AT&T! AT&T exemplifies screw-the-consumer corporate arrogance at its worst. DO NOT PATRONIZE AT&T or YOU'LL REGRET IT! I had an ISP service package with AT&T Worldnet that included email, DSL, a personal website on their server, and Usenet access. Suddenly they dropped the Usenet service, with no compensation to customers that were forced to find another source. Another example of their screw-the-customer attitude is the fact that reaching a tech support person by…

Mouse hovering acts like click
by Guest Paul Gray- 24 replies

Help! Since upgrading to win7, sometimes when I just slide my mouse pointer over an icon it selects that file or launches a program. I know this is a 'feature' of Win7, but I want to turn it off. I've gone into Control Panel--> Ease of Access --> Make the Mouse easier to use and unselected (actually that was the default) Activate a window by hovering over it with a mouse, but it still happens. The frustrating thing is that it's inconsistent, doesn't happen all the time. Anybody have any ideas? Do I need to change settings in more than what I've detailed above, or is this maybe a bug? Thanks Paul

I'm new to W/7 and am setting up my first machine witha large D partition for my user files. I see instructions for relocate "My Documents" to D: via the properties tab. I see that there is an entry in the start menu for my user ID ("user") but I don't see the same way to relocate this folder. I've been fartin' around with this problem for a week now and am no furthur forward despite a lot of work, so I'm hoping some learned person here might have an insight. Running Window 7 Home Premium on a Laptop. I've recently attached a new NAS (Synology DS110j) to the LAN and for some reason I can't fathom, or configure out, when the lappy boots if the NAS is OFF, it spends the next 10 minutes or so doing something on the LAN so there's no LAN communication between it and any of the other Win XP machines. The two XP machines don't care if the NAS is Off or ON, they just work. The Harddrive in the NAS is not Mapped to the Network, so …

Trouble starting Windows 7 on PC.
by Guest Chaudhry- 6 replies

Hi, When I switch on my PC, then I get the basic starting up information and it goes blank. After a while only pointer appears and no log-in box where I should put my password. Nothing than pointer. Then, I shut the PC from the switch and after a while it closes. After say 5 minutes, I start again. Then if I am lucky the box with log-in appears or it goes back to pointer again. Today, I tried three times before I could get the log-in box for inserting my Password. I bought this new PC from Aldi and it is Medion. How could you help me please? Rajinder Nijjhar

disk space for install??
by Guest Seasidepeter- 16 replies

Hi - I'm trying to install win 7 on my girlfriend's laptop. She currently runs Vista, and I've bought the Home Premium upgrade version of win7. She has 50 Gb of free space on a 75 Gb hard drive. Windows compatabiliuty checker said "fine, go ahead" (my paraphrasing). But on installation it says there's not enou8gh disk space to install win7. That's a pretty basic compatability check, surely? How much free disk space does the bloody program need to install? Anybody know please?

NEED HELP SOON: Win7 Files & Settings Transfer Wiz & Office Outlook PST Mailboxes 1 2 3 4
by Guest Tecknomage- 77 replies

I'm going to help a friend setup his new DELL with Win7 Pro & Office 2007 this weekend 4/6. I have used the [Files and Settings Transfer Wizard] between WinXP SP3 systems many times at work. But I've always transferred the user's folder that had the Outlook PST files to ensure the mailboxes were transferred, but that was with *Office 2000 or 2003* installed in source and Office 2003 in destination. How well will the *Win7* [Files and Settings Transfer Wizard] work from a WinXP with Outlook 2000 to Win7 with Outlook 2007? In Win7 with Office 2007, where exactly (path) are a user's Outlook PST files kept? As you can gues…
