dvd drives OEM notebook installed -disappeared from device manager. I looked for help on this site. a 2015 suggestion was to delete both A channels and reboot. no results. proceeded to you tube suggestions but stopped at changing registration values. decided to undo the win 10 upgrade, but still no dvd in device manager. Tried something else, and plugged in a Dell usb portable dvd-rom. Re-booted and....tada The device manager reported 2 Drives. I played a dvd in each of them ,removed the USB drive. Bravely left the same disc in the internal player ,rebooted the computer. The reboot was normal, The dvd disc showed up in file manager and a I played …

Reinstall/Reset Useless
by Guest Yesyamaha- 0 replies

HI I have been having a spate of different problems with my PC this month and some of them were directly caused by Windows updates I think. (my Nvidia Graphics card was running locked at 139mhz and default clock is 1506mhz) and disabling/enabling services in services.msc was what unlocked it!!! I also had a virus infection a couple of weeks back. I have this same installation of Windows for years now since I upgraded from Windows 7. I did reset the PC once about 6 months back but I kept my files and settings. The time I talked about when I reset my PC, I was getting problems with my system and sfc /scannow was reporting problems with system files but t…

Windows updated, now I can't use my computer
by Guest Sjöberg- 0 replies

Greetings, A few days ago my computer started updating Windows, from Windows 10 to Windows Rollback. I think something went wrong, because now it just wants me to select language. I do, and then I get a menu of different alternatives, "continue", "use an unit", "use another operative system", "troubleshoot" and "turn off the computer". If I press continue I just get back to the language selection menu. The others don't do anything for me either. The furthest I get is to where the desktop should be, but the background is black, there's only the trashbin left. I can't connect to the internet or get to any of my files. I looked this up, and saw that I c…

I have 3 PC's wired connected to my virgin router.. I have 2 laptops wi fi connected to my router. I have internet on both. Each PC can connect to either of the other two on the network, also can connect to files on the laptops. However when I look at Network on file explorer I can only see the Media Devices on each PC. I can't see the files, or a heading that shows PC's Sharing in set up to allow. On the PC's I note that the network is private Network 2 but on the laptop it says VM560637 Private Network ( Network and Sharing Centre). I don't have much grey hair but with this problem and age (73) I will soon have less. Can any kind person put me right? …

Windows 10 Installing applications From the Network
by Guest Milmer- 0 replies

We have several applications that during the install try to connect to the internet. When we attempt to run the install from a network share they are being blocked. If we copy the install exe to the local system, we are able to install the application successfully. It appears to be a Windows 10 security issue. Can anyone offer some advise on how to fix this. Sihost.exe unknown hard error since latest Windows 10 update
by Guest AndresBlanco2- 0 replies
Hello everyone, since the latest update on Windows 10 (may 2018), I'm unable to enter on my profile on my computer. Whenever I try to start it, shows the following error message "sihost.exe unknown hard error", then if I continue and log into my profile, comes out the next error mesage: "location not available, can't obtain acess to C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop. Acess denied" with the screen behind it completely black, can't acess the start menu, internet or settings, and the only icon in the desktop it's the recicle bin. It's there a way to troubleshoot this? Or why is this happening? Any solutions? Or even someone who has the same issue. Thank you f…

File History Restore issues.
by Guest Excille- 0 replies

Hello, I had been using file history with a detachable drive on my old computer using Win 10. When that computer failed completely, I used a different computer and found I could navigate through the data saved, but each of my files had a date/time group associated with it (for example, what should be "filename.doc" turned into "filename (2018_05_08 17_03_35 UTC).doc". Many of these files were duplicated with different date/time stamps, even though the file properties were exactly the same. Having over 300GB of data saved, I didn't relish the idea of sorting through all of my files, deleting the exact (but differently named) duplicates, and then re-naming all of the r…

Windows 10 - April 2018 Update - Black Screen Bug of Death
by Guest Chris Carver- 0 replies
I discovered a severe bug in the Windows 10 April 2018 update that will cripple the workstation. I have not tested this on anything except Windows 10 Home, Pro, & Enterprise (before and after the April 2018 update). This seems to only effect the latest April 2018 update. Do not make these changes on a workstation that you intend to keep using. This will prevent you from using Safe Mode in all conditions. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Once these changes are made, the first reboot will result in a black screen that inevitably leads to a hard reboot. After the next reboot, you will not be able to make it past the "Welcome" screen under any circumstances. This includes …

File History - Missing Files?
by Guest B. Parker- 0 replies
I'm running Win10 Pro x64 and just started using File History. After it made its first backup I looked at the Properties of the backup's data set and the source. The backup had: 108 less files 56,481 less Gb 5,210 less folders Is there an explanation? The difference in Gb may be due to a compression algorithm (?), but otherwise …. The difference in files could be hidden system files which are being included in the source properties. The difference in folders is a mystery. FYI, I do not have any file types excluded. The backup was strictly limited to my data drive, so the system was not included. Thoughts? Continue reading...

Windows update killed my usb 2.0 port in the front of the case
by Guest Pedenite- 0 replies

I've got an issue after updating windows 10, that my usb ports in the front of the computer case stopped working until i swapped the 7 pin header on motherboard (it has 2), whitch makes me believe that it's really dead as it doesn't work even in the bios setup. So I wanted to know if there's anything i can do if it's not really dead and if it is, I hope this gets fixed, because it can be really annoying having to let the usb header to motherboad unplugged every time windows tell me to update.
