Windows 10 activation issue
by Guest JakeFreeland- 0 replies
Hello, I bought a PC from a friend and quickly noticed that I couldn't do some things because Windows 10 wasn't activated. My friend said he didn't have any problems and wasn't sure. So I decided to purchase a copy of Windows 10 Home from the MS Store. I followed the install prompts and that didn't work either. In Settings, it's showing the old product key still; not the one I purchased. I tried to manually install the product key and am told "the product key you entered didn't work". I JUST BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT KEY! Below are the two error codes I receive. Please don't reply with links to what the codes are. I want a solution to this problem. I'll be happy to ha…

I recently installed the windows update as instructed by a windows operative, after the update was installed my gaming headset helium 150 element gaming headset had sound but now the mic was not working. So to trouble shoot i reinstalled the drivers from its disk but the mic still wont output my voice. I have used the listen feature in sound settings and my voice plays back to me. Things I have done to rule out: I have it set as default audio decice and default speech recognition as well. I have tried reinstalling realtek hd audio drivers I have also tried uninstalling the drivers and picking them and letting windows install. My mother board is …

unable to open windown after update windows 10
by Guest GlindaWelty- 0 replies

I get an error message after signing into windows. Starts an update then tells me to wait they will do it all, a few minutes latter I get an error message. c:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. I started the original update before I went to bed, left my computer on, but screen does go to sleep. It was a faulty update that has ruined my operating system. I have tried to put in the restore DVDs I made as a back up, also have sent a backup to my external hard drive as suggested when I first received my Toshiba laptop computer from my special ordered computer from Toshiba. I am very disappointed and have worked for 1 and 1/2 days now to try…

Inherited Laptop updated to Windows 10 Pro how to "Clean Install" and assume ownership?
by Guest six-h- 0 replies

I have inherited my cousin's old laptop which had the data transferred to his new machine before his death. Since I didn't know his password, I have accessed the Sys 32 files using Linux and change the password so that I could log-in. The machine has now updated to the Creators edition (1709) but I don't know how to "Assume ownership", I'm receiving messages from Microsoft that "My (his) email account needs updating", and also that "My (his) gmail account needs updating". Since I cannot access either of those, I wanted to remove his account but Googling this I find that it can create a total mess! Can someone please advise me how to proceed? I'm suspec…

After Windows Update I get a grey screen with no Dell boot screen when it starts.

Hey there! After my recent windows update, which took 2 and a half hours which should've been my first turn off, it restarted and when it turns on it has a grey screen with no cursor and no Dell boot screen or anything. I think it might've installed old nvidia drivers because I installed a new graphics card recently. Or it may have updated my Bios and screwed something up with that. But I am not sure how to fix this because I cannot even see the screen where it says f2 and f12 before it boots to windows. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! I would also like to mention it has worked perfectly for the past week up until I decided to update my system. Worst decision ever! It al…

Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center does not recognize Microsoft Surface Laptop keyboard
by Guest Daniel_336- 0 replies
Problem: I have a brand new Microsoft Surface Laptop, with Windows 10 Pro, which naturally comes with a brand new Microsoft keyboard hardwired to the laptop. I installed the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center to reassign some of the keyboard keys. However, Microsoft's keyboard program does not detect Microsoft's own keyboard! Failed solutions: All the help pages say "update your drivers" or "unplug the USB device and plug it back in." However, this is a laptop keyboard, which is hardwired, not a USB keyboard. It is working fine, so there's no reason why the program should not detect it. Yes, EVERYTHING is up to date, including ALL Windows Updates and A…

What is a VPN connection?
by Guest DRMU- 0 replies
What is meant by VPN? What is meant by a VPN connection? I have spent over 30 minutes attempting to find out what this is and why I am given it as a setup option. The language that is used in Windows is apparently for a person who is highly experienced with the product, whereas Cortina's offered help depends upon the questioner knowing the meanings of the terms and concepts that are in question. This is more than frustrating. I am beginning to look into the lauded ease of use of Apple computers even though they are much more financially costly. Is the Apple world as challenging? My time has a significant value. Continue reading...

Windows 10 Update May 2018
by Guest StevenCormier- 0 replies

My computer installed the latest windows 10 update overnight (5/23) and seems to be bogged down since, now running very slowly compared to before. I have restarted it, and that has not helped. It seems to take forever to do anything now and forget multitasking--if I have two or more apps/programs open, it takes forever to perform the simplest tasks. Anyone else have this experience with this update? Any suggestions? Thanks! Continue reading...

How to install security issues
by Guest Louise971- 0 replies
Hi, Windows 10 1083 update had caused a lot of problems when I tried to install this and therefore I am using the previous windows version. I have stopped the windows updates to avoid my computer from re-trying to install update 1083. I am aware the previous windows version will only be updated until 2019, but as 1083 is a buggy mess I want to avoid trying to reinstall it for as long as possible. I am wondering how can I still install important security updates for windows 1079? I am on windows 10 home and only have the option to check for updates which means the 1083 spring update will just be downloaded again. Is there a way to check and manually install impor…

DFS Namespaces on Windows7/10
by Guest MarkAmendola- 0 replies

Hopefully someone can help me figure out this issue we are having... We want to use DFS Namespaces to house files in one central location across all branches, it is setup and working properly at the central office the namespaces are setup at regardless of operating system (windows 7/10). Heres where the confusion comes in, at all other offices, no one using windows 7 can access the namespaces or the network shares that the namespace replicate from. They will get an arbitrary error saying you dont have permissions to access this, which they do, and when they would go to access a network share being replicated from it wants a domain login which none work...even a domai…

99-100% Disk for Hours from Failed Windows Update
by Guest Atlanta Southsider- 0 replies

All yesterday Modern Setup Host tied up my computer downloading 4 GB of data. When I allowed Windows to update, I got "No Operating System Error 1962" or something like that. It was locked in 1962 when I hit any key to reboot as instructed. I manually rebooted and it is trying to restore my prior Windows version, I think. The system has been running for hours at 99% or 100% of disk capacity. Update Orchestrator Service, Windows 10 Setup, System and Windows Update are using all system resources. I went to System - About to see what version of Windows is trying to run and that is grayed out and it won't tell me. Is Microsoft failing? I have not had a decent operating s…

W10 Pro - update broke my email

Prior to the latest (1805) Windows feature update, I could download email from a 3rd party host (Rackspace) using a non-Microsoft client (Pegasus). After the update, I could not, getting a timeout and 10020 error. Rolling back the update, email could be downloaded again, so I've deferred any future updates for as long as possible. Is there something I can do to resolve this? Continue reading...
