Cloned hard drive to larger hard drive and replaced in laptop. Everything worked fine until I was prompted to reactivate Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit), which I did by phone. Now Windows Update is not working - service is not active. Is this a known problem? Any suggestions to correct would be appreciated. Ran Malewarebytes, Turned off automatic Update and then restarted (suggested in a forum), and tried repair with installation disk, none of these has worked yet. View this thread

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit edition with Service Pack 1, and I've discovered two items in Windows Update that fail every time I try to install them. One is "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1" (KB2565057), which at least lets me know the installation failed with error code 0x80070643. Hey there. So, I've been having this problem on an off since I've installed Win 8, and it's beginning to drive me insane. When I turn on the computer, my mouse pointer is perfectly visible on the lock screen. As soon as I unlock it, however, the pointer goes invisible. And it's not because pointer shadowing is on. I have a windows 7, and every hour or two I get a message in my (Solve PC issues: messages). This message keeps saying that i need to change windows update settings. Right now I have my settings set to Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them. This isn't that big of an issue but it's really annoying to see this. View this thread

I have a Windows 7 and I am unable to run windows updates. I receive error code 80070057. I have tried renaming the softwaredistribution folder as suggested in other responses form here and that did not work. After installing certain patches that update the Windows Kernel and rebooting, some of my servers present a STOP error, and restart over and over again. I was able to bring them up in safe mode and remove the patch, so I am functional, but would like to address the security vulnerability this patch covers.I am only experiencing this on Server 2003 x64 systems.This same issue happened with KB2799494 and 2724197, each of which are in the same chain of supersedence. I cannot install Service pack 1. I have formatted my PC a week ago, and 4 days later the update came for SP1. I used Windows update, like I always do, it appeared to have installed, but then a few minutes later its back on the Windows update list again. My old MS-Dos program ran full-screen in earlier versions of Windows, including earlier versions of Windows XP. Due to something in one of the updates it now occupies the top third only in full-screen mode, with the rest of the screen black, blank, and scrollable (like the Windows XP version of the command prompt has always been). How do I get back to a usable full-screen version (i.e., the previous version of MS-Dos)? View this thread
