Since a malware attack I have found BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) missing from my list of Services. Running XP 32-bit with SP3. Can't get Updates. I've tried manually and auto. Error message as in subject line ~ Website encountered a problem and cannot display the page. I've followed all advice in Community threads. I've run FixIt (WU): that always says One or more Windows components needs to be repaired, then says it's fixed. But no change. The issue seems to be that some default location where Update data are stored has changed. it does not say what this is, or where it's been changed to. I then try to see if I can get Updates. I am trying to install a HP wireless printer using Windows 8. I use the Add Printers feature, the printer is found, and then it asks me to select a driver. The exact printer is not listed in the model list, so I select the Windows update button to get more printer models. This hangs and never comes back.
