I have a Gateway computer with the following: 1) a 1400-MHz Pentium 4 processor, 2) 256 MB of RAM, and 3) 40 GB of hard-drive space. The computer is running Windows Millennium Edition (ME). A month ago, I bought a Brother MFC-240C printer. This is a multifunction device: printer, copier, fax, and scanner. Recently, my "starter" yellow-ink cartridge ran out of ink, and one other cartridge is about to do the same. At the Best Buy store where I bought the printer, Brother cartridges are sold for $13.50 each. I believe that these are the LC51B, LC51Y, LC51C, and LC51M cartridges. Well, I have discovered the website known as http://www.ink4less.com This …

My son (away at university) has just installed this week's Microsoft updates and now is unable to get his laptop re-started (it's an Acer Aspire 5633 about a year old). It says "Configuring Updates. Stage 3 of 3 0% Complete. Then it says "Shutting Down" and restarts the whole cycle. This goes on and on.... He has tried to get it into Safe Mode but it won't, just goes back into the cycle described above. I've searched on Google and come up with only one hit - that described identical symptoms and was posted in a blog about three hours ago. There are some references to the same message related to SP1 installation but my son is just using the standa…

I, too, could not get on the net after the KB951748 update. I encourage Microsoft to do a search on the update so they could see how many hits there are already, and to take this update off of the critical list. T hankfully, I do not allow XP to automatically download and install updates. Otherwise, I might have not been able to find the source of the problem so quickly.

[SOLUTION] You cannot install KB928366 (.Net Framework 1.1 security update) 1 2 3

Hi, This is an old bug showing up again. Although the official solution involves reinstalling the framework after manipulating the registry with the installer cleanup tool, there's a much simpler way to fix this: 1. Instead of using Windows Update, download the KB928366 package from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=281FB2CD-C715-4F05-A01F-0455D2D9EBFB&displaylang=en Do not install yet. 2. Download the .Net framework 1.1 redistributable package from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3 3. Repeated attempts to install this update from MS updates result in error code 0x8007F0F4. I have not tried through WSUS yet. I got notified of 3 updates by MS KB951748, KB951978, and the MRT monthly. I faithfully downloaded and installed all 3. After reboot, I could not get back onto the Web. Since KB951748, KB951978 are both IE security updates, I uninstalled them both, re-booted and was graciously let back on the Web. Of course MS wanted me to intall them, so sent another gold shield to let me know. Instead of re-installing both, I first re-installed KB951978, re-booted, and still got back on the Web, but when I re-installed KB951748, again, neither my FireFox 3 or IE 7 could browse, so uninstalled KB951748. Do anyone think MS will fix that "fix" to actually allow use of IE? …

WARNING: KB942615 may require an extra reboot to apply correctly 1 2

When I installed the Patch Tuesday updates on my WXP Box with MSIE6 installed. I had the same problems with IE6 startup as others are mentioning in these newsgroups. Specifically, about 60% of the time, I would get an "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close" dialog. I dutifully reported the failure to Microsoft and then repeatedly tried reopening IE6 until it would successfully open. The above occurred when opening my default homepage, which is "My MSN" - and is heavily customized. Cleaning my Internet Explorer Tempfolder and moving to a blank opening page solved the problem. However, this was not an acceptable solution. I then reb…

Hello! Is anyone else having problems installing this speific KB937287 update? I am unable to get it to stop showing up in my 64-bit Vista UE's Windows Update even though it was a success. All other today's updates were fine except one (KB937287 failed) and then rebooted, but now KB937287 keeps showing up even after successful installs. Hi all I have a good one here for you. I have reformatted a computer twice tonight and have had the exact same issue twice. I at least have it narrowed down to some windows updates. System: XP Home SP3 IE6 Direct upgrade to IE8. No antivirus installed as of yet because tried to replicate issue and eliminate it as an issue. Here is what happens. Do a fresh clean install from recovery cd's which gives me SP2. Then upgrade to SP3. Go and get all high priority updates for the computer. Flash Player Security Update fails. Go back to Windows updates and get notice that components are not registered. No big deal j…

Actually it was the following that would not install. Have tried several times. Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB937143) Security Update for Windows XP (KB936021) Any suggestions on how to get it them to install - the system has slowed down to a crawl. I have tried turning off my virus software, but that hasn't helped.
