Installed two of three updates yesterday. Computer is set to update automatically but apparently it does not always work. The above mentioned update did not install. The is the second time this year alone that I have had this problem. I am not a computer "geek" so this is VERY frustrating. I have tried all the troubleshooting that I understand but do not feel comfortable disabling or turning off something in order to install an update. Just how important is this update? Also, after installing the updates when I went in to check for updates the computer now shows that I have NEVER checked for updates. My installed updates are a mile long. View …

..stuck in an indefinate loop"
by Guest vcandys49- 4 replies

I got a blue screen.."problem..file nv4_disp..driver got stuck in an infinate loop...update driver..." Driver update failed 3 times. I have to turn computer on/off/on/off/on dozens of times before WIN will try to start. Then I get black screen (safe mode, etc). I've searched Help/Support for hours and hours and tried everything I could figure out to do. Restore to previous time, etc. Each time I try to "restart" it won't shutdown - I turn off, then on/off/on/off/on etc. and I'm back where I started. I'm in safe mode w/ networking now and have saved my docs to copy to CD-R before I resort to RECOVERY. The Wizard does not recognize the (new)inserted disk and…

On a computer that has .NET Framework 1.0 or .NET Framework 1.1 installed, if you uninstall the security update corresponding to KB928366, KB929729, or KB928367, the file version is rolled back to the last Service Pack. Windows XP SP3 -- automatic updates enabled. I have a version of McAfee that was installed when I bought the computer. I would like to remove .net 1.1 from this computer. In add/remove, it shows that program. When I try to uninstall it, it says "Another installation is in progress." The history of my problem is: 1) Saw the updates icon on the taskbar. When I started the update process, McAfee popped up and said "Suspicious script detected." Sadly, I lost the note I made with whatever details were provided. I only remember it said something about trying to create a text file. Don't remember if it said .txt. I allowed it to s…

.NET 1.1 framework installed o.k.
by Guest Fourdogs- 3 replies

Like many others, my computer froze while trying to install this update. When the yellow update shield appears in my taskbar, I close it and go to the windows update site and let it scan my computer to see which updates I need. I do it this way because I want to see what it wants to update before I tell it OK. When it got to the .NET 1.1 update it froze and would not install the remaining updates. I had to go out for several hours and when I returned and booted into Win XP the shield was there as before. This time, I used the shield and the previously failed .Net and other updates installed correctly. Did anyone else get the .NET Framework, Version 1.1 to …

.net 2.0 - failed update KB917283 after re-install
by Guest Ed Y- 1 reply

I was having the common problem of KB928365 failing to install. I follwed the "George" procedure and uninstalled .net 1.1 and 2.0. (didn't have 3.0) installed). This is a WinXP Home SP2 system. I then installed 1.0 and 1.1 service pack 1. Everything fine. I then installed the security patch, KB928366. Everything fine. I then re-ran Win Update and installed .net 2.0. Everything fine. Re-ran Win Update and had 3 high-priority updates for 2.0, ie, KB917283, KB922770 and KB928365. 922770 and 928365 installed fine. 917283 failed with a error code of 0x643. Windows update now shows no high-priority uddates. What do I do now about the failed one?? Ed Y

.NET 2.0 SP 1 Corrupting .NET 2.0 Framework
by Guest Eric R. Renken- 1 reply

We are seeing a lot of our customers call in because our applications won't start and the problem is that the .NET 2.0 Framework is corrupt. When you go to Add/Remove programs and try to do a repair of the framework it gives you an error and it can't repair. You end up having to use the ..NET Clean Up tool. We aren't the only company having this issue. QuickBooks just sent out a notice yesterday to all of their customers for the same issue, http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/pages/knowledgebasearticle/1009275. It appears to be happening because parts of the .NET 2.0 framework are in use so the setup fails and this in turn corrupts the frame…

.Net 3 & MP11 not available on Windows Update after SP3 installed
by Guest Sgt. Pepper- 1 reply

I'm reinstalling Windows XP MCE 2005 from scratch on a PC. After reinstalling the base OS I went to Windows Update to update. It recommended I install SP3 right away. I went ahead. SP3 installed okay but now when I go to Windows Update I don't have the option to download and install .Net Framework 3.0 or Windows Media Player 11. (Note, .Net Framework 2.0 does still appear in Windows Update after SP3 is installed.) So my basic question is, why do I lose the ability to install .Net 3.0 and MP11 after installing SP3? I realize I could download the redistributable for these and install anyway, but my concern is, if Windows Update doesn't show these, what else…

.NET 3 framework "needed" when already manually installed
by Guest Harry Johnston- 7 replies

Hi, I've found that the .NET 3 framework (928416) is detected by WSUS (and Windows Update, and Microsoft Update) as "needed" even when it has already been manually installed. It will be downloaded and installed, apparently successfully, just as if it really weren't already there. (Note that the recent security update for .NET 3 is also detected as needed if it hasn't been installed.) Once .NET 3 has been (re)installed by WSUS/WU/MU it is then correctly detected as already installed. This seems to happen consistently, so I suspect a fault in the detection logic, or perhaps in the downloadable installer. I used this link to download the .NET 3 instal…

.Net 3.0 affected by July updates
by Guest Neil Riley- 1 reply

Just in case anyone else has experienced this nightmare... After installing the updates yesterday I later noticed that the WPF Xbap I'm developing behaved strangely after installing using ClickOnce – it seemed to reinstall itself on every access. Removing all the updates and manually clearing the ClickOnce cache seemed to correct the problem. After reinstalling the updates the behavior returned immediately. I then uninstalled .Net 3.0 & reinstalled & it's now ok (Hopefully for good!).

.NET 3.5 update failed, error #0x8007064C
by Guest Steveb- 2 replies

Windows update downloaded and failed to install updates for .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5 initially. Found instructions to download cleanup tool, remove both 2.0 and 3.5 and manually reinstall them. The problem with 2.0 went away, but the update installer thinks I still need the update for 3.5 and keeps trying to install it, and failing with the error code: 0x8007064C It's blocking all other updates. Please suggest how to fix it.
