The three .NET updates fail to install. I have manually deleted all .Net Framework packages and reinstalled. I have applied Microsoft Fix It 50123. I have used the .NET cleanup tool to uninstall all .NET Framework packages twice and reinstalled in the correct order (3.5 first then 1.1 etc) and still I cannot get these updates to install. I opened a request for assistance via email and was simply referred back to here. I have the following in update history: Error Code: 0x643 Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following resources. BUT the event log for each failed update is as follows: Event…

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update KB953297 Fails to install 1 2
by Guest Shawn E. Hale- 39 replies
- 2.3k views
Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 All other updates released this date installed fine with the exception of KB953297. Another home computer installed this update with no problem. The only difference I can find is that the computer where the install failed had ..NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix KB928366 installed. The article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953297) states that this recent update "supersedes" the hotfix. I tried to uninstall the hotfix but that lead to another problem where it could not find the "netfx.msi" file to continue. So I stopped that hoping to find another answer here. Any thoughts on what I should do?

No solution to Update error 57E? 1 2
by Guest AndyF- 38 replies
Greetings... I have been dealing with Windows Update and getting error code 57E now for weeks. I am running Vista Ultimate 32 and though I have viewed what I think is every post on Vistaheads regarding this error, nothing seems to work - the error simply persists. I have shut down popup blockers, and even my virus software and yet nothing I do allows these 5 updates (for Office components) to get installed without producing error code 57E. What is even more frustrating is that I cannot find anywhere on the Web that translates what this error really means. Seems silly to have error codes with no reference anywhere to tell a user what a given code like thi…

Security Update KB958644 broke my wireless NIC! 1 2
by Guest Daniel- 38 replies

Background: 2.0GHz Celeron system with new virgin hard drive installed ±3-4 weeks ago, with new install of Windows XP Pro, the usual applications, and all updates through and beyond SP3. Was working just fine, connecting to my network and the Internet through a Linksys WUSB54GS USB wireless adapter -- until late last night when I installed the latest "emergency" Microsoft critical security update (KB958644). Immediately after the security update, Device Manager reported that the USB NIC failed to start or had stopped (i.e. it wasn't "disabled"). I have tried unistalling all the Linksys drivers/software, then re-installing with the latest available …

Hi, I just did an update to my Windows XP SP3 (Media Center Edition) machine. All updates (17) installed w/out a glitch except for one: a Works 8 update -- (KB955428). "The feature are are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" ... "Enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package Works8.msi". I have the Works 8 DVD but when I insert it, as I have done before for Works 8 updates, nothing happens. I've already tried 3 times to install the update but it keeps failing. Sterling

SP3 and HP/AMD Computers 1 2
by Guest sasha gottfried- 36 replies

I've recently learned, via this newsgroup, that SP3 will cause incessant boot problems when installed in an HP computer with an AMD processor. I see that there is a patch for this via the HP website. Of course, one wonders how to install a patch on a computer that just keeps rebooting? Why didn't Microsoft figure this problem out before releasing the update? There must be thousands of HP computers with AMD processors! Why didn't HP send out a special alert to customers with AMD processors? These are the kinds of issues that infuriate customers, and lead to all kinds of lawsuits. Thankfully, I read through this newsgroup and avoided messing with this SP3…

No updates possible 80072EFE 1 2
by Guest Klauwaart- 36 replies

Hello, Since a few days now, it is completely impossible for me to receive updates for Windows 7 Ultimate. I keep getting an 80072EFE error. When I try to go to the microsoft update website itself, something seems to stop me, saying "The page can not be displayed", and I have had browser issues for a few days too, ie. when I follow a link I searched on Google, I get sent to advertising websites, and, as mentioned before, something seems to block the sites which could help me sort out my problem. I have already done Malware checks with Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, all to no avail at all. …

This Computer has not reported status yet 1 2
by Guest bzumwalt99- 34 replies

Hello, I am having problems with a few clients running XP Pro SP 2 that are not reporting in into WSUS. They show up as clients in WSUS but are not showing their Status Report. I have tried all the following: disjoining the computer from the domain. Renaming the computer, using the wsuaclt /resetauthorization /detectnow commands (which do work) after removing the client and readding it. I am running WSUS 3.0 SP1. This is only happening to a handful of clients. All computers are receiving their group policy correctly etc. I have also run the WSUS client diagnostic tool and every thing passes. I am truly stumped on these machines. I can see other people…
