Windows Update will note install KB933360
by Guest JazzMahn- 6 replies

I am receiving error 800b0100 and the installation fails. I have talked with a MS technician and he doesn't suggest anything other than a reformat. Other than this one failed installation the computer functions perfectly. I think it started when I did a system restore to a time prior to when I hadalready had KB933360 installed (not failed). Ever since the system restore (I think I went back 5 days which is too many) and even though the update was supposed to have been successfuly installed, when I run system restore I get a new important update to install. When I try to install it, I get that the file has failed. The file has to do with setting the c…

Repeatedly Offered an Update, KR 910339
by Guest ace- 2 replies
To stop a repeating XP update, I applied the steps outlined in KR 910339. The status was green (update installed), found no viruses after a scan, downloaded the update, but could not install it in the standby mode. A message said you can't install from the standby mode. Any suggestions? It looks like it's a registry problem which I can't handle without help. Can an MSV suggest to MS that they need to make a fix for Windows Update to adddress all the problems people are having? -- ace

Windows Update Makes Programs Stop Working
by Guest TheSarah- 0 replies

I've been having a problem with a few programs and it took me a while to figure out. Media wouldn't play on my computer at all and AIM would not open no matter what I did. Also, my network and sharing center would not open or stop responding when I tried to open it. Another community member tipped me off that they had to use System Restore. I used it and it fixed almost everything. Then Vista ran an automatic update and everything stopped working again. I used System Restore to get back to where I was before the update and canceled the update from happening. My question to everyone is, did anyone else have this problem? The windows update doesn't say what …

Update will not finish
by Guest Geri O- 3 replies

I'm very sorry if this has been covered, but I've searched until I'm blue in the face for this particular topic. This is a new Gateway notebook (refurbished, actually) with XP Media Edition. 43 updates have downloaded, but they will not install. There is no error message. When I power the computer down, I get the "Installing updates, do not turn the computer off" message. No matter how long I let the computer sit in this state, the message is still "Installing 1 of 43 updates". Eventually, I have to power down the computer. And this continues to happen. Thanx for any help or directions to find the fix. Yes, I'd love to think I could find it on my own, but…

Using WinXP I did all 3 updates together. Everything works fine, but, now I get a yellow warning that pops up from the taskbar saying that my firewall is turned off. Not true, it's on. Is there a known issue with any of these 3 updates that confuses the security center? After a couple of minutes I am able to connect using a modem, but there is now a delay.

It also installs automatically. My update history says it has been downloaded about 20 times. How do I stop getting that update? Thanks! JC

reset MSDE password for WSUS 3.0
by Guest blankmonkey- 1 reply

I recall the MSDE password for the SA account was blank in past editions. I would like to use the MSDE engine for a new WSUS 3.0 install I am doing, but I have searched High and low and can't find out if this is still an issue, or how to reset the password if it is. I have tried osql -E -d mf_enterprise -Q "sp_password NULL, 'newpassword', 'sa'" and this does not work with WSUS 3.0

Change size of BITS queue
by Guest Knut Lund- 1 reply

I have two WSUS 3.0 servers. One that is connected to the Internet, and one that has no Internet connection. My problem is that I get “This update cannot be approved for installation because its Microsoft Software License Terms failed to download. Click Retry Download to start the download again.” on the internal WSUS server. If I look at the BITS queue I see that it is license files (eula) that are filling up the queue. The maximum numbers of entries of the BITS queue is 10 and I have 24 license files that the selected patch need. What I have tried to do is to manually download the needed files from Microsoft, rename the file and add it to the correct folder. Then res…
