MSBusinessContactManager update fails and stuffs BCM
by Guest Lee- 0 replies

I am running Outlook 2003 with busines contact manager. Have been for years. The update manager said there was an update for the business contact manager for Outlook and I ran it. It hung totally on installing something like SQL server small business edition. I had to kill the install. I rebooted the computer and re-did the install (it seemed ok) and ran outlook and was requested to either start new BCM database or use an exisiting one. Both options failed to work on multiple attempts. I assume SQL server SBE or similar didn't install properly, but checking for updates said my system was up to date. I then uninstalled the BCM for outlook update which s…

On a company network where none of the users are administrators of their local pc, I've started to get the "AU found no suitable session to launch client in." (ever since I removed admin rights) and WSUS(3) shows the computer with errors. In one particular case I have 11 failed to install - every single one of them are office patches (although other office patches have installed. - 920103,919029,923097,925251,942571,940602,914455,934180,936048,924085,934181 If I log on as an administrator I am offered the patches and I can then install them. However that defeats the point of an enterprise patching system if I have to log into the pc's individually. Giving user…

Latest updates for vista fail to install
by Guest diabulos- 9 replies

Running Vista ultimate, with my antivirus uninstalled, I try to install the latest updates (shows about 7 of them) in some instances it goes through the motions and ask to restart, then once back, i check the update window and it is still there and it appears as a failed in the update history. Problem is that it keeps doing a system restore and if I delay the restart, then as it fails, it takes me back to the poitn before the failed installation. The error codes it gives don't appear in the knowledge base nor even via google (what is the point of vista generating an error code that MS has no seeming knowledge of?) these are the errors I get: 80071…

The Genuine Windows Validation Component, Vista

I'd my first "Problem report and solution" (KB941649) notification and I was also taken aback by the necessity to install this component. I'd been getting updates (Vista) for months, and they are always tidily nestled in the "sleep/lock session/shutdown" buttons in the start menu screen. They install when I shut down, and configure when I next start up. I'd had to wonder whether this "Problem report and solution" thing wasn't actually a pop-up from some spy-ware people masquerading as Microsoft, asking me to disable my Active-X blocking, and everything. Without any intentional irony, I'd like to know, for asking me whether my Vista is genuine, are you…
