Cannot install Internet Information Services
by Guest rmcompute- 7 replies

I went into Add/Remove Windows components and checked Internet Information Services. It began to load and then told me to insert the Windows 2000 CD ROM disk looking for D:\i386. I no longer have this CD. I installed all the latest Microsoft updates but it still is looking for the CD. Are there any options or do I have to purchase Windows 2000 again?

Vista Ultimate MUI Issue
by Guest Einlanzerous- 1 reply

I have Vista Ultimate, and even though I selected English as the install language, it has for some reason selected Serbian, or Slovokian. Something like that. I manage to stumble about well enough to find the install language option, but English is not available. Windows Ultimate Extras give me the option to download english (along with several other languages), but although it doesn't have any trouble downloading any other languages, it cannot successful download English, gets any where from 40-60% before it just closes the installer. No error messages or anything, just closes and then the updater says there was one file unsuccessfully installed. At least…

Windows crashes-doesn't allow updates or Norton AV installation
by Guest Doc Holladay- 0 replies

I just recently did a clean install of Windows XP on a new harddrive. In the process of bringing it up to "speed" with all of the updates, etc. I find that the computer will simply reset for no apparent reason. I have install Service Pak 2 and it did a few updates, before I encountered this problem. It will also not allow me to intall Windows Defender nor Norton AV. While in Windows Explore, Explore will just quit and ask me to send an error message, which of course, never gives me any clues at to what to do. Short of wiping out the hard drive and starting over, does anyone have any suggestions of what to try. It is a Western Digital 120G HD. I did…

How to install on XP

I have downloaded a whole load of updates for XP from the windows Update Catalog. I see them in my download folder on my computer and was wondering how to 'deploy' them to a few machines. Surely i don't have to go into every folder and run them on each machine do I? If that is the case then i may as well run automatic updates.... it seems a lot easier to me......

Desktop Search 3.01 automatically deployed in WSUS???????
by Guest VeryUnhappyCustomer- 4 replies

What is going on? What give MS the right to deploy a new version of the Desktop Search software on our computers without giving us the option to approve it? The Upgrade somehow got automatically approved for deployment in our WSUS server. This isn't a minor change to an existing patch, this is a major version upgrade! So far most of the PC's have installed it fine but some installations have failed silently but a few have cause profile corruption. Microsoft, what gives? What gives you the right to update our computers without our permission? What made you think that adding the ability to override our setting in WSUS was a good idea?

We have Windows XP SP2 with all updates installed. We followed the instructions in kb id=836941 and error 0x80072ee2 was resolved but now everytime we access Windows Update we receive a Security Warning. "The current Webpage is trying to open a site in your trusted sites list. Do you want to allow this ?" Obviously, we wanted to allow it or we wouldn't have added Windows Update to our trusted list. How can we suppress this warning ? -- windows novice

windows messenger live...and connectivity issues...
by Guest Karen_Jean- 0 replies

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place to ask this.. from what I have gathered so far from searching online two things went on with my computer. I'm not sure if they are related or not. I believe there was a windows messenger live upgrade? Right when that happened I started getting connectivity issues. Connectivity is sporadically up and down. At around the same time my MSN sypsweepr discovered an LDLINCH trojan. I went ahead and deleted it. When I was researching to make sure all traces were gone, I found out from differnet forums that spysweeper was notifed of problem and came back with the fact that the trojan was a false positive. Apparantly it …

restart to finish installing updates?
by Guest Bill- 2 replies

Hi, I recently installed new HP printer software to my computer. After plugging in the printer and having the HP software update the drivers for the printer, windows update then tried to install drivers over them. However, the installation failed, stating that the drivers were in fact the same. I recently tried to install a program and I got a message saying that windows needed to re-start in order to finish installing updates. After multiple restarts, the same message continues to show up. Windows update says that my computer is completely up to date and the only update I can imagine would still be trying to install would be the failed printer dri…

by Guest JF- 3 replies

I am trying to install the chinese (simplified) language MUI and continue to get error code 2. I have tried rebooting sveral times. I make sure no other programs are running. My Windows Vista is activated. I am running the 32 bit version of Vista ultimate. After the install is complete the message says install complete then it tells me some items were not installed successfully and I get the error code 2. The only MUI I have installed successfully is the Japanese one. I am using the Windows Update to install the MUIs. I cannot find them anywhere else. It almost appears that microsoft is trying to dodge this one as I see no support anywhere for th…

My post about not being able to download kb891122 brought up the question of whether or not the update was for vista and indeed with further research i found that it was only compatable with xp, yet the "professionals" at zune tech support told me this was the update i needed. My questions are, is there another DRM update for vista or can anyone direct me to a forum dedicated to zune software issues? -- Your truely, Microsoft customer

Vista Windows Update ERROR 800B0100
by Guest Skip R- 5 replies

Maybe someone can help??? Windows Update simply won't update under using Vista Home Premium, 32 bit. (Either automatically or manually.) When I click on 'check for updates for your computer' to manually check for updates, I receive an error message saying... WINDOWS COULD NOT SEARCH FOR NEW UPDATES Error(s) found: Code 800B0100 Get Help I click on 'get help' and error code 800B0100 is NOT listed. I have 'googled' the error code and have found some others with the same problem, but none had yet gotten results. So, I really don't expect to either, but I thought I would at least try. VERY frustrating.

Help! When I try to update Windows Vista, I get an error code of 8007277B. This code is not in the help file nor microsoft.com. The one thread that keeps popping up says something about searching the "logs" for "context". What logs? And what do I do with the context? How is it that Windows can generate this code, but I can't look up it's meaning? -- r

Can I stop windows updates?
by Guest andyra- 8 replies

It seems each time the computer does updates, it stops working properly. I have re-installed a few times now, and I don't have the time to constantly do this. Currently internet explorer isn't working and the computer wants to restart and install updates and I don't want it to. I don't want updates automatically if they are just going to wreck everything.

In March of 2006, "Tempest" had the same problem I'm experiencing: it says "Checking for the latest updates for your computer..." and the little progress bar with the green boxes keep sliding back and forth This is a common problem, and there are lots of answers out there that don't work and that make about as much sense as some witch doctor's magical incantations. Can ANYBODY come up with a solution the DOES work and that makes sense?
