KB939653 - Cumulative Internet Explorer Update - Half Uninstalled
by Guest Neil Dallaway- 1 reply

I had the same problem which I have seen on a lot of Vista machines so far - the KB939653 update blocking access to the Internet via IE7. I had to uninstall the update on a machine which usually fixes the problem and then I hide the update. However, on one particular machine I uninstalled the update but it froze half way through thus only half uninstalling the update. It is no longer in the Add/Remove programs section but there is still no access to the Internet. I reinstalled the update and uninstalled it again to no avail. Is there a registry entry I can manually uninstall the update and all files associated with it??? Sorry about the length of this post…

Update KB939653 won't install.
by Guest LMacNeill- 3 replies

Every time I try to install the update for KB939653, it fails with error code 0x80073712. Searching for this error code, I get KB931712 which tells me to delete the HKLM\COMPOENENTS\StoreDirty value from the registry. However, this value does not exist. And, my "Windows Features" dialog box is NOT empty, anyway... It appears that it simply will not download this update (KB939653), according to the WindowsUpdate.log file. So how do I manually download and install this update? Or is that even possible? Thanks for any info you can provide, Laurence MacNeill Mableton, Georgia, USA

I have downloaded each update and tried manually, but I still get unable to install update with no error messages given. Can anyone help on this problem. Other updates install fine, just not these two. The other one is the Outlook Junk e-mail filter (KB936677) Thanks RCH

Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter

Hi, We have a bunch of workstations with Office 2003 Pro with Word, Excel and PP but *without* Outlook installed. These computers have been marked with one non-installed upgrade for weeks: The Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter update. It seems that WSUS tries to apply a non-applicable update for these workstations. Has anyone else experienced this? Any cure? Jake

Windows update is killing VISTA....please help
by Guest Marcusoid- 0 replies

I have now read many forums to try to solve this problem....with no luck. After a brand new clean (but painful) install of Vista home premium update has been a big problem. Note here I'm not getting any error messages. Boot up is now very slow and when I use Windows update the whole system slows down to an unusable speed. My system is 2 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1 GIG RAM (667mhz), Asus Mboard. System also craches if I try to open Media Center (which is why I installed Vista...)! System runs like a dream (excluding media center) as long as I go into "services" and stop the update service completely. I think maybe the problem with Media Center is that it restarts the…

Windows Update Problems on new PC
by Guest AJakeWR- 4 replies

Hi. I just got a brand new PC with Vista two days ago...and since I got it, I have gotten several Windows Update errors. I cannot remember the first one I got, but I tried one fix for it I found and that produced another error message so I thought I undid what I did. However, now I'm getting this situation. Wndows Update connects and says it has to install an update to the Windows Update software. It connects, appears to install this update, restarts Windows Update and then I get error 8007007B, saying it could not search for updates. I click Try again, and then it tries to download this update for the Windows Update software again. Any suggestions? Thanks…

Windows Update Not Working Suddenly
by Guest Bob C.- 2 replies

I have an HP 854n Media Center PC that was running MCE 2004 and having no problems with downloading and installing critical updates. I installed the MCE 2005 Upgrade CD that I received from HP and everything went smoothly. However, I've noticed that now when I go to Windows Update, I get the normal message that first appears stating that it's checking my system to make sure I have the most current update software. Then it brings up the screen where I can select "Express" or "Custom" (which is the normal process). Once I click on either one of the choices (Express or Custom), it states that it's checking my system for the latest updates but the little r…

by Guest JBall- 3 replies

I am trying to upgrade a HP Pavilion a1777c desktop from Home Premium to Ultimate. I purchase an upgrade to Ultimate, there was a (or some) files downloaded to the computer. I am trying to use the upgrade anytime disk that came with the system. It looks likes the upgrade is almost done, but then stops and rolls back saying some system application could not be configured, but does not indicate which application. Upgrade adviser reports no problems except there is no status on my HP 1020 printer, so I re-tried the upgrade after deleting the printer, with the same results. I also looked at the two files in \panther, setupact looks like it written from the…

I downloaded the service pack without a problem but when i try to install it gets to the point where it says "Checking for necessary space" and just sits there indefinitely, i let it sit for about 15 hours and nothing changed, i have 167 GB of free space on the hard drive so i don't think the problem is lack of space, and cant find any way to get past that point.

Malicious software tool - Auto update
by Guest Mike F- 2 replies

Every month, Automatic update goes nuts with this Malicious Software removal tool. It installs it, then 2 minutes later it wants to install again, again, and again.... I shut down, and I start up the next day and there it is ready to install again. I do a custom install and when it's done it says the install was complete. I close the window and few minutes later the update icon is in the task bar. I located the mrt.exe file and ran it. It's from Apr 2006. I went directly to the website and downloaded the tool, with the same results. How can I correct this problem.

How to Fix Error 800737712
by Guest lbp1126- 11 replies
After trying a number of the suggested fixes when Vista failed to install updates and gave me error message 80073712 I came up with a procedure, modified from other's suggestions, that worked. 1. Go to http://www.gibinsoft.net/ and download the GIPO@Utilities Files 2. Run GiPo@moveonboot and tell it to rename c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml to c:\windows\winsxs\pending.bak 3. Follow instructions to Reboot the System. When you do you will get a message on reboot that some system component or functions may not have connected or a similar message . Just ignore those messages and go to Internet Explorer and type in http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/wind…

Hello everyone, When trying to run Windowsupdate (OS: Win2000 SP4 IE 6), the page displays the message: "Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software". It stops there, there is not even a progress bar. CPU usage 0%. When trying Microsoft update I get the same, but this time there's an error code: 0x8007007E. Here are the things I already tried: I ran IE repair tool using this method (as it's not in the add/remove list): http://www.infopackets.com/channels/en/windows/gazette/2003/20030522_repair_internet_explorer.htm Registered my system files: regsvr32 /i Urlmon.dll regsrv32 urlmon.dll regsvr32 /i Shdocvw.dll regsvr32 Msjava.dll r…
