Updating 2000 Server
by Guest Bird Byte- 2 replies

I'm looking for advice on the best way to configure a server to update via WSUS (with the equipment we currently have). The client machines already update by getting dumped in an OU with its own group policy. The server is the only server, and functions as the dc (and dns, dhcp, web, file/print...). I'm thinking the best thing to do is to add the WSUS group policy created for the client machines' OU to the Domain Controllers OU as well. Am I on the right track or am I missing something? Any input/advice would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

My Windows 2000 Now Updating OK
by Guest BuddyToBud- 0 replies

I don't know whether this will be of use to anyone but until today, my W2K has not been updating correctly for a couple of weeks and other strange things have been happening - in particular the event service failing to start. I tried all the troubleshooting articles, trawled though all the security policy settings and went through the registry with a fine toothcomb - all to no avail. On a whim, I looked at the security settings on the .evt files in %SYSTEMROOT%/System32/config and found that only my user had full control so I added SYSTEM, SERVICE and Administrators to the folder security settings and bingo - I could start the event service and view the e…

KB928365
by Guest Peter Green- 1 reply
KB928365 update has been bothering me for months. Its an safety update to ..net Framework 2.0. I looked up the update troubleshooting, and according to its "useful suggestions" have uninstalled .net frameworks 1.0, 1.1, and 3.0. Only the .net Framework 2.0 wouldn't go away (it said there was other applications which would affect system). According to windows update site, the error code is 0x643 (generic error code). That eggyolk-coloured icon in the status pane is frighteningly stubborn could anyone tell me how to exterminate it? Thanks! -- Peter

Thanks to TaurArian for the very useful reply. The error I get in windowsupdate.log is 0x80004002 (see last lines copied below) so I will chase this up on the site. Also, the CD-RW issue was solved completely with that link - thanks again TaurArian for the swift response and help - much appreciated. DST updates necessary or not?
by Guest chucksweety- 0 replies

Hi, I've spent some time on this looking through the updated articles and faqs, but I see nothing that says I have to push out the latest versions of these updates, or the Update Rollup by November 4th. I patched all of my systems (Windows, Exchange, BizTalk, Sharepoint) back in March and have done some spot testing and it appears on the 4th everything will work fine. I will plan to update my servers accordingly, but none of the TZ changes affect my company at this point. My actual question is: Am I making a safe assumption that not much has changed since the original patches other than some TZ additions and document revisions? Thanks

i'm actually not sure what the heck happened to my computer -- i think it downloaded updates automatically and restarted itself, or it might have restarted when i dropped my book on the keyboard. but anyway as it was restarting it said "installing updates" and the login screen came up ok but when i logged in the desktop did not appear. the taskbar appeared and when i moused over it i saw the eternal spinning circle, and if i clicked on anything it said "windows explorer is not responding." i tried rebooting 3 times, finally i booted in safe mode and it works but cannot run all the programs. would love some help here! thaaaanks. note: there are no system…

Super slow boot after installing Windows updates on October 9 2007
by Guest Passemurailles- 9 replies
I installed the eight updates automatically from Microsoft on October 9 2007. Now my PC needs over 20 minutes to boot up. The performance when it is up and running is good. I haven't noticed any issues with the applications either or the networking. It is just the boot time that is incredibly slow, litterally dragging itsself from the HP blue welcome screen all the way to steady state. Any feedback on what to do? -- Passemurailles

windows update failure
by Guest earlchamp- 2 replies

Having problems, none of the updates will install after download through microsoft update. No decent explanation given by software. Solution given, try again. No error code or anything. I am only able to install the updates if I go to microsoft and dowload each KBxxxxxx individually and install manually. Brand new Dell machine came loaded with XP Home which we immediately upgraded to XP Pro. My only thought is that I made the mistake of going to the update site before validating my windows copy. Went and validated shortly after, now the updates won't work!! Any help?

sp2 error 0x8024D007
by Guest Jennifer- 3 replies

I am trying to download sp2 for my windows xp pro. (I can't use my zen till I do) It won't let me download any updates. It freezes on the update screen for several minutes, then finally goes to the download now icon, attempts to download for about 5 seconds and then just continues to give me the above error code. I tried to follow instructions to turn on automatic updates and for some reason it's not even an option. This error code isn't listed in with common problems and online support won't reply. Any suggestions? PLEASE!!
