Update Shield with No Action
by Guest someone- 0 replies
On Tuesday, per schedule, I downloaded and successfully installed the Windows updates. On Wednesday, I temporarily received the shield again, but it quickly disappeared with 0% downloaded. Today, the shield reappeared and stayed at 0% downloaded. In addition, my firewall on my AVG Pro was deactivated, and when I tried to activate it, the computer stalled with the hour glass and no action. I tried to open Process Explorer, but nothing. OK, so I tried to restart the computer, but could not activate anything. Finally, I hit the emergency button and everything is working fine, with no shield this time. Can anyone give me any explanation. Windows XP Pro,…

wireless vista disconnects
by Guest DBrooker- 2 replies

Have Vista small biz and for the last month it disconnects from the wireless router, and says local access only. Have tried disabling security, repair etc. I always have to reboot to establish the conenction again. Typically will be connected for an hour or so. Have tried disabling firewalls etc, to no avail. I am sure this must be something to do with some update, as prior to a month ago I never ever had this issue. I have come back from a trip around the world, and established this was a problem that started at some point during that trip. I have used many different routers, and also updated the intel wirelss drivers and even tried roll-back the…

Interrupted AnytimeUpgrade
by Guest FSSChris- 0 replies

When buying my current laptop, I inquired about IIS and was told that I would need to upgrade to Ultimate to be able to use it. So I began the upgrade, which first updated my current version, Home Premium, but then I realized that IIS works just fine on this version. I returned the upgrade to the store, still technically running Home Premium. But now whenever I turn on my computer, it displays a message telling me that my product key (which I never entered) is invalid, and that I should buy/enter a new one. So my question is, is there any way to make this message go away? In addition, when I tried the option to enter a new product key it asked me to ente…

Hi, I just had a user turn his windows 2000 computer on this morning, it then prompted to install some updates, then it wanted to be restarted and it was. After rebooting it acted like it was a fresh install. All quick launch items were gone, internet connection needed to be resetup, desktop items dissapeared, outlook account one!! I then looked under "Doc's and Settings" and noticed the computer had created a new folder with the employees Name and put all (I think) his stuff there. The original account "W413" was still there but had no data in it. Does anyone have clue what the %$#% happened?? I was able to get most of his stuff back and heard horror s…

The Update Does Not Apply To Your System
by Guest Jaruseleh- 2 replies

I'm running Windows Vista 64x Home Premium. I've had no problems installing updates until today. I have 2 manually downloaded updates I'd like to install (KB938194, KB938979), but I get the message "The update does not apply to your system" however in the knowledge base it says it DOES apply. I've already installed another update manually about a week ago, and that worked fine. Does anyone have any ideas? I really think KB938194 could help me because my computer hangs and/or crashes when playing ANY video game, not just ones that are incompatible with Vista. Thanks in advance

Latest Windows Update

Yesterday's automatic update required a restart of my computer. I sign on with a network password which won't work because I'm not connected to the internet. I can't get into my computer. I no longer remember the password for my computer since a change and use only my network password. I have shut my computer off before and signed back in using my network password before. why can't I do that this time? did this update affect my ability to do that?

Vista Update KB938194 fails - how I fixed it
by Guest OpenX_UK- 1 reply

I'm making this post as I have followed several other threads on this update and associated errors - none of the fixes worked for me. I'll start by saying my Vista install is stable but I have previously posted in groups to say it does do some odd things - like contatntly asking me to authorise the same programs to run, never remembers my Live Messenger settings and always asks to start Firefox and Outlook in safe mode as they have not shut down properly - suggestions so far have been Avast antivirus related - and/or permissions. Anyhooo... I went to the Miscrosoft Windows Download site - searched 'KB938194', downloaded it and installed it. I then rebooted …

Updating Windows Vista

For all who use Windows Vista and have been having problems updating their systems, can I suggest that they refer to my posts 'Problematic Updates in Windows Vista', both in this newsgroup (dated 8/18/2007) and in the newsgroup 'Windows Vista General Discussion' (dated 9/11/2007). Please note that this method works for 32-bit systems, but as I don't run a 64-bit system I cannot guarantee that it will work for these. Dwarf

I am having major issues trying to upgrade from ME to XP Home. My PC was originally installed with Windows ME and later upgraded to XP Home Edition. We recently had to replace the hard drive and I reinstalled the original software and OS. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. This is followed by: Setup can not continue because upgrade functionality is disabled and your coy of Windows XP only allows upgrades. Is anyone else's PC running INCREDIBLY Slow since the last windows update (vista)? No reason for this, yesterday it was running fine, and there have been ZERO program or hardware changes aside from the most recent windows update. Also, for whatever reason, it has 3gb of memory cached, but only really USING 600mb.. I'm thoroughly confused, any help, or any similar problems might make me feel better! Ty.
