Can't work out how to delsetc the update and prompt me to never install again if I can't fix the update error. Any download where I can just get the MS driver and try it manually?

by Guest Heiko Schulz- 8 replies

Hi, since some time I´m not able to change (add or remove) Windows features (i.e. MSMQ or IIS). German Vista Ultimate with Office 2007 (both activated) and Visual Studio 2005 SP1 , all patches available through Windows Update installed. Strange: Every time when I start Windows Update the Windows Update Agent 7.0.6000.381 is sucessfully installed again (???). When I try to change Windows feature I´ll always get this error: [Window Title] Windows Features [Content] An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed. [OK] The event log is full of messages complaining that "Windows Servicing failed to complete the proce…

7.0.6000.381 install failed
by Guest Debra- 3 replies
Appears WU update failed on my machine because auto updates since then won't work. If I try to install from Control Panel I get the message that WU must be updated but that update fails. The log seems to indicate that 7.0.6000.381 was successfully installed so it doesn't install it again. However, when I check the versions of the files listed below they not only aren't 7.0.6000.381, they aren't even 7.0.6000.374. They are 6.0.6000.16386 and I don't have a clue what to do next. I did submit a help request in late August and received an email stating a professional would be in touch within 24 hours and heard nothing more. cdm.dll wuapi.dll wuauclt.exe…

Windows Update redirects to v4 on Windows XP Professional x64
by Guest whoblitzell- 4 replies

Up until about a week ago my Windows Update was working perfectly and defaulting to v6. Now for whatever reason IE redirects to v4.windowsupdate.com and of course it fails since it is an old version of the site that probably isn't suppposed to be in use anymore. I've tried looking for references to v4 in the registry and deleting them. I've tried reinstalling the ActiveX control (clearing browser cache) and reinstalling automatic updates. Yesterday I formatted and the problem went away. Until I downloaded the newest updates and now it redirects to the v4.windowsupdate.com site again. I'm beating my head against the wall on this one. Any ideas?

Fails to update, fix doesn't work
by Guest Anthony- 4 replies

When trying to update it gives me an error that some services are not running (0x8DDD0018). I have checked the services, restarted them, and it still does not work. I have checked to make sure it wasn't a local issue, and I can still get updates on my laptop, so it's not internet related. I attempted to run with firewall off, no avail. I have compared services to my laptop, and all is in order, but I still cannot update my windows. I can't even read the "review your update history" to get the error log file! -- Anthony

RE: Vista Updates

I had the same problem and got help from a tech support which he did fix the problem. It's not back to normal when I goto update! Here's what he wrote. Hope this helps it worked for me. Hi Jesse, Thank you for your reply. This seems that there is a system issue which blocked the self update for Windows Update Agent. To resolve this issue, we can perform an in-place upgrade to replace the corrupted files. The in-place upgrade will only replace the system files and do not remove any installed applications. So, it is safe for us. However, it requires you have the installation CD and product key for Vista. If you do not have the CD and key, please …

I recently updated my Windows XP Home Edition to SP2, but when I restarted the computer, it would only let me boot up in Safe Mode. I was able to do a System Restore so I can use the comptuer again with SP1, but would like to know how to upgrade to SP2 successfully. I have a Dell desktop, which is about 5 years old.
