Vista Update files - how to delete them?
by Guest Keith B. Rosenberg- 2 replies

Where does Vista keep its updates files? In XP they were hidden in the Windows folder, but you could unhide them and delete them manually. Since these updates will eventually take up a lot of room on the drive, I would like to delete them. Is there a way to do this?

Sorry to dig this thread up again, but if your computer is assigned to a domain, and you log on locally as an admin, I had the same problems. When I removed the compter from the domain to a local workgroup, I had no issues. "Blazingrex@yahoo.com" wrote: > Hi my name is Bob hill. Prevent windows update forced reboot
by Guest Matthew Bilsky- 0 replies

I have it set in my group policy that computers should run automatic update every evening, and should install all updates available. Then it should not reboot the computer, nor ask the user to restart. Saturday night, all of my computers, including my servers restarted automatically, and then displayed that annoying green shield in the task bar telling me that microsoft had updated my computer. I want to prevent this from happening again. Someone suggested using wsus, which i have installed, but haven't implemented yet, but i would not like to have to approve every update, and sort out which ones will restart the computers. how can i fix this? …

Update KB938979 fails
by Guest FVe- 5 replies

Since a few weeks WIndows update fails. It did cost me a lot of hours to solve the problem, but without luck.... The KB938979 tries to install, system reboots, configures the system and just before the logon screen my system reboots again, again configures the system, then the logon screen appears. After logon, my windows update shows the -just installed- update again and the whole show starts over and over again. I did remove the softwaredistribution folder as mentioned on the microsoft site, but no luck. Tried to download the file, and install it manually, but no luck. Always the same symptomes. At the mean time, also newer updates fail to install be…

Error report 0x80070020
by Guest Hopeless- 0 replies

Hi! Please give a hint! I've spent "some" time with the error report 0x80070020. I had once the spybot, I uninstalled it - but it didn't disappear (it gave warnings when entering sp2 download pages even there was no more software anymore due to windows add/remove software tool). I downloaded the spybot again and turned of the teatimers etc. No solution. I unistalled the spybot, this time with it's own uninstaller and executed the manufacturers registry cleaners and even manually removed some stuff. Now I really don't have the spybot anymore. Still I get the same error report. Also virus software is disabled. What to do? Thanks for that who will s…

Scanning for updates
by Guest G3YPV- 6 replies

I've had to re-install Windows ME following a hard disk re-format. Checking for updates led to download and install of SP1. So far so good, but now when I check for any more updates - of which I'm sure there are many (see below) - when I start "scan for updates" the system hands on "checking for updates 0 percent". And there it stays. Before installation of SP1 the scan worked OK and initial check showed some 25 critical updates available.

Occasionally while runing vista home premium i get an error that states "Reliabilty analysis metrics calculation executable stopped working and was closed." What is causing this problem and how may i resolve the issue. Also when running windows update i receive a blank page with a statement in the middle that states "The page failed to load." I cannot reach any options under the update page (the preferences that should be on the left of the update window are not there) and the only intereactive part of the window is the address bar/search bar (>control panel>windows update). Hi, I uninstalled Office 2003, all the files related to Office 2003. I installed Office 2007. 12 updates were to be installed, I accepted them and they are installed on my laptop. I checked the Windows Update panel and I noticed that the SP3 update for Office 2003 was shown in the panel " Historic of the installed updates( though Office 2003 is not more on my laptop), I noticed that the SP3 was listed, but when I checked in the panel " Installed updates", the SP3 update is not listed.
