RE: error 0x8009310B

Didn't work for me, same error over and over, but you were a little unclear on one thing: "The Box that you first opened the one I said not to exit from (1) all the files that are in that box must be taken frome the folder last opened and transferred to the temp folder on your desktop. (2) make sure you transfer only the files stated in the first box." First you suggest to copy ALL the files (1) later you tell only to transfer only the files stated in the first box (2). Also, what box? Frans.

Windows updates failing in Vista
by Guest speed512- 4 replies

Several updates have failed since 8/27 while trying to install update 7.0.6000.381. I keep getting the error code 800F081F. I attempted the fix discussed in the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932494/en-us and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/. I installed the x86 WUA 3.0, and no changes. I cannot immediately see which of the 927891 Hotfixes would apply for Vista 32-bit and thus did not install any of those hot fixes. Any suggestions? Thanks

vista states 44 updates to download but nothing happening
by Guest Rumpus- 8 replies

I had to reinstall vista last week as the dvd player stopped woriing now I can't update my system. Bit is enabled and allowed through the firewall. I have tried install automatically, download and let me choose and let me choose which to download and install. I have left my pc on for hrs idle in the hope vista would download them when I wasn't using it. Still nothing. Is there a awy get vista to start downloading updates at the click of a button or does it have to wait and do it in it's own time. I've been trying different options for a wek with no real joy. 2 updates appear to have completed on the 20 but nothing since. heres a small snippet…

RE: Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1
by Guest NetUser- 1 reply

Since Aug. 15, 2007, WIN XP SP2 has been trying to install the security update for Microsoft.Net Framework Version 1.1, Service Pack1. Whenever my computer is shut down, it supposedly installs update 1.1. Whenever it downloads the above security update & installs it, it says the install failed. I expect this procedure to continue forever until Microsoft provides an undate that will correct the situation. On the other hand, deleting Windows XP & installing a different operating system would also get rid of the problem but personally I'm not ready for that drastic?!! measure yet. Overall, it looks like with this kind of forum thing, Microsoft h…

Updates KB938979 and KB932596
by Guest Bobby- 3 replies
I have recenetly downloaded Windows Updates KB938979 and KB932596, and after I did, my keyboard and mouse stopped working. As a computer technician, I went about trying to troubleshoot the the problem, and after uninstalling, reinstalling, using other computers and so forth to narrow down the problem I have come to the conclusion that the updates have caused my problem. I did some research into what these updates improve and I noticed that they lock down the kernal, so much that even some drivers won't load, at least not the non-digitally signed ones. However, though this is a great safety measure, my problem is, to say the least--uncalled for: my Microsof…

Downloading Office 2003 SP3 ends in 0x80246002 failure
by Guest idlewise_nz- 0 replies
I have attempted to download the Office 2003 SP3 three times (at ca. 108 MB a try) from the update website. Each time the download fails when it has retrieved all the file. I have even tried to download the free-standing update exectuable (at ca. 117 MB). This was interesting, as the package was not digitally signed (unknown publisher), and when I ran it, it complained: "Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted Cabinet file." I have 100s of GBs free on my drive, so it must be a corrupt CAB file. Is there a known problem with this update, or must I continue to tryto download this file u…

by Guest barrowhill- 6 replies

When attempting to run Windows Update on my Vista PC test bed, I end up with error 800b0100 (when trying to download an update to the windows update software). I've performed some suggested solutions on this forum but to no avail. I've checked installed updates, found those that are missing and tried to download. Tried is the operative word. On the Vista machine (P4 3.2 GHz and 2GB RAM), download appaliingly slow. Reverted to another machine (P3 733Mhz 512RAM) running XP and download no problem to removable disc. Updated Vista machine with missing updates. Running Updates again, as before, keep getting asked to download and install an update …

Virtual Server Update KB937986 - reoffering itself
by Guest Dale Networkguy- 14 replies
A single patch has failed to properly install on a Windows 2003 SBS server for Virtual Server 2005 R2. The update is KB937986. The update goes through the install, says it is comlete, requests a restart, and once restarted is again reoffered. This is also a WSUS 3.0 box. Initially I tried to install solely by WSUS but having had this time consuming (server reboots are 10-15 minute cycles - Exchange & SQL logs ...etc) is really painful to find the time to make trial & error attempts. I also tried once through MU & then also downloaded the patch directly to the desktop for the last try. How can I troubleshoot this?

HOT fix KB891781 is screwing up my html editor (Homesite 4.5.2). I understand the risks of removing this, but I want it GONE. I did a search on my pc and couldn't find it. I know how to remove it in Windows XP, but I couldn't find the uninstall file. I couldn't find it in the Control Panel either.
