Cannot get update software to install correctly
by Guest Bodark- 6 replies
I go to the update site. It says I need the latest update software. I click the install button. In a matter of seconds, it runs through Dowloading and Copying Files to 100%. (I assume this means they were downloaded and copied in previous attempts.) However, then a page loads that says, "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view." I cannot get to the actual updates page. Thanks.

Does Avast AV interfere with update?
by Guest Joosy- 6 replies
XP. I installed Avast last week in place of AVG. Update notifications have been appearing for quite a while. I ran update via widows update site but received error 0x80072F76. Being used to switching down, Zone Alarm every time update needs to run, I suspected Avast may be interfering with update so, shut down its checking and tried again - no luck. Closed down the system. On reboot, manually closed every Avast process - voila it updated. Is this something common? Is there a way to work around it to de-complicate update? -- Stevie "Build a man a fire and he will be warm for one night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his li…

Word 2007 thesaurus not found
by Guest Christine- 2 replies
I just recently installed MS Word 2007, but when I go to use the research button, it says that the thesaurus isn't installed. It then asks me if I want to install it. Of course, I say "yes". It tries, but then tells me to put the MS Office Premium 2003 disk into the CD drive. Now, I am using 2007, not 2003 (had that installed before, but now 2007, and am using 2007 when this occurs). I have even tried inserting the 2003 disk, but it doesn't find the file it is looking for (data1.msi), so it won't install. I tell it to cancel, and then it will go on with the other research options. How do I install the thesaurus in MS Word 2007? Christine

.NetFramework 1.1 - Resolution for Code 643 - KB929729
by Guest Gistcheckin- 7 replies
I'd renamed the SoftwareDistribution Folder, I granted Full Permission Rights and neither of these resolved the installation issue of KB929729. I then found a solution from Chris Rowat. Windows Update Icon appeared in taskbar soon after Windows Loaded prior to installing the KB update. I installed the update then shutdown and let windows update continue during the shutdown process. The update was detected and when I booted up, Windows Update had been put to rest. The update was detected. Follow these directions: Download and run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, and remove the .NET framework 1.1 from the machine. Download .NET framew…

Not able to install updates
by Guest Enkel- 3 replies

I recently changed my motherboard and had to reinstall/repair my XP O/S. Update then told me I had to download and reinstall 83 updates. They downloaded, but when it came to installation none of them would install. I got a box with a list of them and the message "83 updates failed to install". When I close down now I am told "Wait while Windows installs updates 1 of 71 installing ..." After a few minutes Windows closes down without further comment. Clearly the installation has failed because it goes through the same process every time. What can I do to install these updates, please. Thank you

by Guest Lions67- 1 reply

Hi can anyone help. I recently had XP sp1 on my computer. During my windows updates i was upgraded to sp2. My problem though is that since the change over i have not been able to open ie6. when you double click on the icon it does the egg timer thing and in the processes it shows iexplorer.exe. Yet nothing will open at all. I am now using Mozilla firefox but would still like the option of IE. I upgraded to IE7 but it still never worked, so i removed that. I dont really want to go back to sp1 but i think it might be my last option. Somebody please help thanks
