KB938979 downloads fine, starts the install process, reboots the PC. However, Windows Update reports the update failed. None of the files which were suppose to be replace had been, so obviously the update had failed. This is Windows Vista Enterprise, 32-bit. These steps were followed without success: "Stop the Windows Update service. 1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools. 2. Double-click Services. Clients reports but do not update
by Guest shogyn- 6 replies

Hi! My problem is that our WSUS server says, correctly, that there are several updates that are approved but not installed yet on the clients, but the clients clearly logs that they do not find any new updates (see log file below). One test client installed 2 updates once, but nothing after that. The 3 other test clients have not installed anything. All clients report which updates that are needed. I would appreciate any help very much. We are in northeastern Cambodia, with limited internet connection and are very dependent on the WSUS server to work in order to be able to updates all clients. - WSUS is installed on a PC running Windows Server 2003 …

by Guest Jonno- 1 reply
Hi I don't have any version of Office, Word or Excel. However I do have the Word Viewer 2003 & Excel Viewer 2003. I don't have Security Centre set to automatic so today did a manual check: was told I should install Service Pack 3 for each of the Viewers. The updates downloaded but would not install, giving error code 0x80070643. I tried again but with the same result. Can anyone please say if there is any way of getting the SP3 updates to install? XP Home edition with SP2, ZoneAlarm Free Edition, AVG AntiVirus Free Edition. Thanks a lot Jonno

wuauclt.exe ... Cisco Security Agent.. and .pst files.
by Guest christian_dillon- 1 reply

We are using Cisco's Security Agent as a host based IPS in our network. It works via a set of rules, much like anything else. I have scoured every website, talked to Cisco's TAC and this is my last resort. Why.. is.. the file "wuauclt.exe" trying to access users PST files. The outlook PST files are in different locations on different machines. I have verified that the wuauclt.exe file is the legitimate one from Microsoft. What EXACTLY is this file doing, and why is it looking into PST files. See below for a few of the messages that I get from CSA. The process 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe' (as user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM) attempted to ac…

SP3 offered
by Guest Smirnoff- 7 replies

I have my auto updates set to inform but not to download or install. Today, the yellow shield appeared and I was informed of 3 updates: Win Defender Windows SP3 (YES) Junk filter for Outlook Clicking on SP3, I was informed that some elements had been released individually but this update included them all in one pack. I clicked "Download" and a minute or so later the yellow shield disappeared! As SP3 showed over 100MB, I thought I'd give it a while but nothing has happened since. Before going to the MS Update site, I thought I'd post to see if anybody has had a similar experience.

Update installs and shows "succeeded" (on each reinstall), then reappears as an update to be installed. This is happening on 8 Dell work stations running XP Pro and Dell 1900 Server Running 2003 Server. All other updates on all machines load correctly. What is the solution to this problem? Thank you in advance. jsp307@aol.com

Re: error 80070424 windows update VISTA

i've just noticed that an update has been installed, SINCE i have had this problem: the windows malicious software removal tool -september 2007 (KB890830). This was intalled on 16/09/2007. Thought this might be worth mentioning in case it helps determine which files are corrupt. eg is that update something that can be detected via a different route than windows update, which is still giving me the same error (80070424) and not searching for updates. -- getalexfr ------------------------------------------------------------------------ getalexfr's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=30456 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showt…

Hi, I have a problem with windows auto update, all of my servers ( windows 2003 R2) are configured to download and install the update at 3:00 AM and install them automaticly, but still I see the small picto on the right sid of the window that said the update are downloaded, and ready to install, why it ask if I want to install them? I did enable this option already! and one more issue, when I go to microsoft update page I see some updates there, when I open some of them I can see that the size of the update is 0 kb, what this means? is this means the update already has been installed? if so why is in the list of the updates? Any idea what is going on…

Update KB937986 for Virtual PC 2004 fails with code 0x11
by Guest Hugo Kornelis- 3 replies

Hi all, I just noticed that my Windows XP machine has been trying and failing to install the same update for many days already. The update is called "Security Update for Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 and Microsoft Virtual 2004, Service Pack 1 (KB937986)". It fails with error code 0x11. I have done some searching, and I have found other reports of this problem. Those were solved by resetting the environment variables TEMP and TMP to their default values. I checked, and for me those variable already *are* at their default values. The contents of KB937986.log (located at C:\Documents and Settings\Hugo\local settings\Temp) are as follows: Resource copy failed…
