KB892130 install problems after repairing WinXP operating system
by Guest KnowledgeSeek- 10 replies

Goal: to re-download & install 78 Windows Updates (These were lost after repairing the operating system per HP Compaq procedure. I didn't have a restore point set.) Status: update downloads say they are ready to install, but installation fails totally every time--next time says the same updates need to be downloaded and installation fails, etc. Windows Update website says I need to upgrade some Windows components to use Windows Update. Blow by blow description of results: "Message: some updates were not installed" "The following updates were not installed: Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)" "Review your installation results: f…

Windows update for Vista and resulting boot issue
by Guest Mark- 8 replies
I just applied the latest updates for Windows Vista Home Premium as well as Office Enterprise last night and now my computer will not even boot up. Upon turning the power on, the computer shows the startup screen that offers a chance to go to the boot menu or setup (f2/f12) but it takes much longer than usual to get through the last 1/4 of the progress bar. If I hit f2 or f12, it says it is 'waiting to ...' go to that option and then it just goes to a blank screen with a flashing DOS underscore cursor in the upper left corner. I can't get to any boot menu or setup in bios. This all came out of nowhere other than a reboot after installing the new …

by Guest Tim- 4 replies

Visual Studio Update kb937061 was installed successfully. A few minutes later, the update pops up again and wants to install. I let it install a second time and it poped up again. VS 2005 say it installed correctly as does add/remove programs. This is an XP box. BTW, it installed correctly on another machine with no problems. What can I do to stop this?

NVIDIA RAID Class Controller Update
by Guest DVox- 11 replies

After this update installs and computer reboots, I recieve the 'Blue Screen of Death' and the system reboots over and over again with the same result. I was able to restore my system to a date before this update and have since disabled automatic updates. How might I install this 'important' update and not have my computer crash when booting up? Booting in Safe Mode yields the same result. The only means I've found to bypass is to restore and not install the update.

I've turn the computer off when it was loading updates (which it said not too, but I was in a rush) Now every time I log off, it prompts to install updates, at which it goes into normal update procedure, ie 'installing update 1 of 5' "Do not turn off the computer". At which point it hangs. How do I get update to install correctly ? -- Greg McLandsborough

I posted this in general, Performance and Maintenance as I am not sure where to post it. Sorry if I am duplicating please feel free to delete it in General and where it doesn't belong. OS--XP-PRO-SP2 Q6600 processor Without going into much detail I returned the above computer because of a problem that I believe regarded an "automatic" update that caused many problems after I updated the netframework to 3.0. This new computer was 2 days old. My computer became so slow I could not access a web-page from another web-page. Tech support at Dell could not seem to find the fix without causing other problems. After my computer was reformatted and Dell …

I'm sorry if this has been answered before but can someone tell me - if an update shows as "failed" on the update history on Automatic Update, does Windows try again to install it automatically or should I try to do it manually. If I do it manually, will it show up in the update history?

KB921503 causes system to crash
by Guest Edward Ripley-Duggan- 14 replies

I had posted yesterday about some major issues with the current batch of updates. I have identified the update that is crashing my machine, running XP Pro. It is update KB921503. When run, it prevents processes from opening, including my security (NOD32), the Genuine Windows Advantage" module (for which it creates an error message for Microsoft), as well as routine e-mail and browser access. I have been able to repair the system using rollback from Safe Mode. I'm sure that this doesn't afflict all machines (it didn't, I think, cause any issues on a notebook of one family member), but it gave me a rather bad time initially, since it prevents rollback (an…

I'm using Windows Vista Enterprise. Last night, after Vista attempted to get new updates, it restarted. Now today, many applications are crashing with errors about "storage." O.S.: Windows Vista Ultimate. The Security Update for Microsoft Visual Studio Service Pack 1 KB937061 has been installed 4 times and shows this in update history. A dialog saying it was successfully installed has appeared after each installation. Every few minutes automatic updates has a new critical update that it is prompting me to install, and you guessed it, it's the same VS SP1 security update! How can I stop the madness?
