delayed start of windows update when booting causes problems --

Hey Folks - My son is a student (new) at a college here in California which uses some cisco related security software. This software apparently is getting "confused" as apparently Windows Automatic Update Service has about a 2 minute delay before starting (in Vista ONLY). Kids with XP computers are not having connectivity problems to the internet. Because the Cisco security software thinks Windows Automatic Update Service is not running (in reality it is), the kids with Vista are getting just "temporary" internet connection for 59 minutes (on this system at this college). The work around is to let your computer wait for 2 minutes after the Cisco signin…

No files are downloaded. Get error 800706BE after a long delay with Windows Update sitting there like a rancid egg claiming to be downloading updates. Time between blue screens is only about 30 minutes for me since I spent more than I can afford on Vista. Getting updates is my only hope, and now that doesn't work.

Hi. Have tried all day yesterday and some of this morning to get past the AID error message. Did the MS KB "fix". Did not work. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148) Did the "reset.cmd" fix (http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=8125). Did not work. Windows update error codes - unknown?
by Guest diabulos- 3 replies

Could MS please update the error codes list in Vista's help feature? I keep getting error codes when installing updates from Windows update and none of the codes I get (about 3 different ones in several instances) appears in the help or in your site (extensive search done. If there is an error code, surely, somewhere there is a definition for that code? isn't it? it would help us users to be able to find it, otherwise, it is a bit of a laugh at our expense to put the code there and not be able to find a reference to it at all. Cheers! ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most…

When I turn disable the security, I am able to connect just fine. I still have this problem when I turn the windows firewall off. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks.

I have automatic updates turned on and set to install the updates early in the morning. Automatic updates checks for updates every hour and this tends to slow down my computer. I would like to change this so that automatic update checks for updates once a day which is really all that is needed since I only install the updates once a day.

Window udate fails error 8000FFFF
by Guest Bryan- 6 replies

Hello, Whenever I try to run windows update I get an 8000FFFF error when it is searching for updates. I have searched the posting here for a solution and nothing has helped. I have seen KB929777 referenced in the notes but I do not have this installed. Also all antivirus and antispy software is turned off. Any help to solve this would be greatly appreciated. I have include part of the WindowsUpdate.log file where the error is mentioned. Also the "Current version: 7.0.6000.374" mentioned below appeared to be part of an update that failed a while back. It seems that a reinstall of this update might be a place to start but I do not know how to do that ? …

Windows Vista Ultimate update
by Guest Zjonn- 2 replies

The Security Update of several weeks ago appears to have caused problems on my system in that the update has attempted to install a number of times apparently without success but I am now unable to access Windows Update on my system nor am I able to access the control panel. Clicking on the control panel icon in start gives the appearance that it is attempting to access it, briefly displays the control panel folder empty and then disappears leaving me with the normal desk top screen. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix it without re-installing Windows, something which I had to do several months ago because of another problem, MS suddenly decided…

Some steps you can try and I am sure it will resolve the issue. 1.From admin command prompt type net stop wuauserv and net stop cryptsvc and then delete the softwaredistribution and catroot2 folder under c:\windows and c:\windows\system32 respectively. 2.Look for these files under c:\windows\winsxs Pending.xml and Pending.grl Take the ownership of these files and delete them. Along with this also check if you have these values undre registry • PendingXmldentifier • NextQueueEntryIndex • AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving in the location HKLM/Components If present delete them as well. Restart the computer and try updating again. If issue …

Running Vista Ultimate on a pentiumD system in a workgroup with a fuly patched XP box (so Active Directory and DC issues are eliminated). The administrative template "specify intranet Microsoft update service location" is set to "not configured", as it should be. The system consistently found the language packs I chose not to install Since then I get a WindowsUpdate_8000FFFF error and a red dialog box titled "Windows could not search for new updates" almost all of the time. I cannot find any help info on the error: Code 800719E4 I have scanned for viruses, there are none. I have turned off the firewall, it doesn't help. I have turned off & on various services, no help.
