MS Access files not opening with WIN XP sp2
by Guest MK- 1 reply
I am using a software which uses MS access 97 format files. My system has win XP and MS office XP (2002). The software was working fine with this combination. I updated the system with win XP sp2 and now while opening the MS access files with the software an error message "Perhaps it is not an access database, or it is already in use?" is displayed. All these access database files work fine in MS access. I tried installing the software on different computers and if the computer has win XP sp2 then the error is displayed while opening the files with software. The software works without any error with WIN XP sp1 even with systems having MS office 2003.

KB936357
by Guest Rolando E Creagh, MD FACS- 1 reply

Must relate my experience with this update that perhaps will be useful to others. Two identical motherboard & Intel cpu computers were updated nearly 2 months ago by automatic mode, resulting in stoppage of the boot immediately after the first Windows XP SP2 screen and cycling back to start. No way to boot into the OS, either safe or last configuration, therefore I was unable to restore. Only repair-reinstall will work, but once re-updated, the problem was back. Manual updating with hotfixes up to and excluding those of July, were installed and not recreating the problem. (reinstalled so many times, I exhausted the allow number and ended requiring pho…

Failed Install of KB928416
by Guest roblyerj- 4 replies

Of 150 computers, there is only one that failed to install KB928416. When I try to install manually via Windows Update, I get the error message that "Installation failed" and no explaination as to why. I don't see anything in the thread for this particular patch. What should I be looking for in order to install this patch successfully?

Microsoft Update Fails at Download Stage (Win 2000)
by Guest Mark M Morse- 12 replies

Hi: After scanning a few posts in this newsgroup, I discovered the existence of the WindowsUpdate.log file, but I need assistance interpreting its contents. For many months, I have successfully updated an older notebook running Windows 2000. The July updates installed without incident, and the system was not used until I went to check for August updates. There are six critical updates at the Microsoft Update web site, and the steps proceed okay until the downloads begin. Each download status ends with "Download Failed" instead of "Done!". What follows below my signature is what I think to be the applicable section of the WindowsUpdate.log fil…

Problematic Updates in Windows Vista
by Guest Dwarf- 6 replies
If you have read any of my previous postings, you will see that I have had trouble installing some of the updates, these being KB929123 and KB933566 from June and KB937143 from August. I have today managed to install all 3 updates without any problems. I did this by activating the main Administrator account in Vista and running Windows Update from there. Note that the main Administrator account is not the same as a standard account with elevated privileges - it is a completely seperate account which is normally hidden. To complete the updates it is essential to run IE7 and Windows Mail from this account before using your normal standard accounts. I am not …

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium PC: Dell Dimension 8400 I am unable to install the Update for Windows Vista KB939159. The installation fails every time with error code 80070002. I have also tried running the standalone installation file from the Microsoft download centre (Windows6.0-KB939159-x86.msu), but the installation also fails I have tried to solve the error using the below articles, but the first one did not work and the second one I got an error message "access denied" when attempting to run "ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp" http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/c5f4d9e0-3eb6-426b-8118-0cedf489a75f1033.mspx#EQ h…

Service Pack 2

Hello, I have had this problem for a very long time. Whenever I download service pack 2 the computer needs to restart, but when the computer restarts it keeps on restarting itself. It will not boot all the way it just restarts. We took the computer to Geek Squad ( A big mistake) they were usless and after about 2 weeks they told us that they could not fix it. I believe that they told the person who picked the computer up, that the only thing they could think of was that our computer was running on an illegal copy of xp, but its not. We bought the comuter from future shop ( In Canada, which is the same thing as best buy here, they actually own it. We now li…

Windows Update App (wuapp.exe) shows 0KB and is not valid
by Guest IanBadeer- 0 replies
My computer hadn't updated itself in over two weeks and I started getting suspicious I went and ran windows update only to receive this error. C:\Windows\System32\wuapp.exe is not a valid Win32 application. I went to the folder to discover that the file exists but the file size is 0KB. The date modified is the same as the other files so I'm not sure if it is a hacked file or not. I most likely need to replace the file, but I have not found this error anywhere else on the web, can anyone help me replace the file or fix the issue? Thanks, ~Ian Lincoln, NE Windows Vista Business 32-Bit

Failed Windows Update Installations

I don't believe I've ever come across a Windows module as fragile as Windows Update. As soon as one issue is dealt with, another appears. I've Googled my butt off trying to find a solution that works - no luck. I've registered applicable dlls, made sure related services were started, etc., etc. Error shown after failure is 80004002 (Some Updates Were Not Installed). Greetings. My windows updater is working fine for everything but this daylight savings one, KB 933360. As I live in New Zealand which is one of the affected countries I would like to install it. OK guys, I got mine to work. The person helping me via microsoft support is still not addressing the actual issue of the standby problem, but I simply followed her instruction and it worked. I think the culprit is using windows update to get the KB928366 security update and having antivirus/antispyware or other security software running. Her instructions gave an actual manual download for the update, and that is the differece for me. Here they are: ALSO, BEFORE YOU START, DISABLE ALL ANTIVIRUS, ANTISPYWARE, ANTI WHATEVER SOFTWARE, HIPS, SOFTWARE FIREWALLS (short of the windows firewall) etc. 1) Either use the add/remove function in the control panel…

KB932596 breaks unsigned drivers in x64
by Guest Peter Lawton- 8 replies
Be careful of the KB932596 "update" it stops the "bcdedit -set load options DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS" option working, that a lot of vista x64 users were using to load unsigned drivers, and the associated MS KB article doesn't see fit to mention the fact that this is probably the only thing this ""update" does. 32bit OS users don't have to worry of course as MS never dared to put "kernel patch protection" in 32bit OSs anyway, because it knew the howls of outrage that would have happened. I suppose MS figured there were so few 64bit OS users anyway and they were having so many driver issues already one more thing to put up with wasn't going to make much …
