Security Update (KB927779) shows on Windows Update even after install
by Guest cheeseisakindofmeat- 5 replies

Hi, I've read a few related threads here but none seem to address my exact problem. I've narrowed this issue down to the fact that my drive is partitioned into C and D - C for Windows, D for data. Normally, the Program Files and Common Files directories are located on D - I edited the registry to move these folders over to that partition - and when that is the case, KB927779 will always show as an update to be installed even though it is already installed (it's in Add/Remove Programs). If I revert the Program Files and Common Files directories to their default locations on C, KB927779 does not offer to install. My question is, is there a way to stop KB927779…

Windows Update fails in Vista
by Guest Morne- 1 reply
I have upgraded to Windows Vista Business from Windows XP and for it seems that the Windows updates fail to install all the time. I am also having problems saving files I download from the Internet, the file will download but when it comes to committing it to the Harddrive Vista returns an error saying I do not have permission to safe the file even though I am logged on as admin - I dont know if that may have something to do with the updates not installing.

Good and not good.
by Guest oldcain- 1 reply

XP (currently fully up to date) has always had the following peculiar aspect: Windows Defender updates are notified and the process always completes as one would expect. If the auto update notification includes anything other than Defender, the dialog box is fine and when sent off to do the job, the shield vanishes after a minute or so and that's the end of that process --- no files are processed and no further prompts. A subsequent visit to the download centre, and do the rituals, and the process works fine, except that after a variable interval during the install of downloaded updates, the shield re-appears and says that downloads are available for in…

Untidy important updates

Ok, installed the updates released last night. Restore point was set, 4 updates applied, rebooted. Now desktop has 2 desktop.ini files on it. Sure I can just delete them, but it does seem a tad crappy for MS to release an update set that leaves such basic junk behind. What gives?

Canot open word attachment in Outlook after update
by Guest michaelk- 0 replies

Hello, I'm from Germany and I got a serious problem after installing the updates from August, 22, 2007. After installing the updates, my Outlook (2003) as part of Office 2003 Small Business Edition, shows a strange behaviour: Outlook cannot open Word-documents attached to the mails. The message sounds as follows: There's an error during opening the file. Please try one of the following steps: Make sure you have enough rights to open the file! Is there enough diskspace? Open the file with recovery-textconverter. Well I'm logged in as administrator. The disk has enough space (nearly 50% used). Opening the file with the recovery-textconverter option …

Repeated install of Vista Updates
by Guest lars- 1 reply
Windows Vista Updates keeps on asking to install the same updates after it says those updates were installed successfully. This always happens when I reboot my system. The updates that are being installed are drivers for hardware that vista says were installed successfully. Is there a fix for this? I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Any info would be appriciated.

Hi there, I want to know whether I can use the XP SP2 CD I have (p/no. X10-80291), which if I remember rightly I received with a PC magazine back in '04 or '05, or does the CD E85-03129 that is the CD that Microsoft are sending out now have updates added since the earlier disc was made? I am helping a neighbour upgrade their PC and they are on dial-up, so the more there is on the CD the better. Thanks.

WSUS 3.0 not downloading all files
by Guest Dave M- 5 replies
I recently installed WSUS 3.0 on a new server. The install went smooth, PC's are connecting to it (directed via AD). I have gone thru and approved all that I desire to. BUT, after almost a week, it still says there are 2.9GB of 434 files left to download (started at @ 700files at 4.3GB?). So my questions: 1. Is there a way to force the downloads? or 2. Is there a way to list the updates needing the files so I can manually download them from the Catalog? Or to remove the ones not needed or maybe stopping the downloads? Thanks! Dave
