Internet Explorer 7.0 Installation Failure
by Guest KarenLynn- 2 replies

I have and use IE 7.0 but when I go to the Microsoft Updates site, it keeps wanting to download and install IE 7.0. When I try to do that, I get an installation failure, error code 0x643. All the other updates are successful. Why does the update scan not recognize that I already have IE 7.0 and how can I correct it?

Space issue with Windows Automatic Updater
by Guest Charlotte- 1 reply

I have low disk space on one of my servers running WinServer 2003. The Automatic Updater has tried to download (several times) SP2 for this. It has failed, but the files seem to be eating up a lot of drive space. Is it okay for me to delete the files in the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads directory? I thought these files were supposed to clear out automatically after a certain period, but I have files (taking up lots of space) going back at least a year. I have installed all the latest updates except for Win Server 2003 SP2. I have turned off the downloading feature in Automatic Update at this point to stop it from trying to get the SP. B…

Hi I have a PC with XP Pro SP2, I need to run a Repair Install but don't want to have to run the massive update for files since SP2 was released. Is there some way I can download them in a single file prior to doing the repair so I can install them immediatley and not have to wait for the download afterwards? thanks Daniel

blue screen crashes after latest Vista Updates
by Guest planetLars- 2 replies

Hi, I don't know exactly where to post this information and didn't find an address to communicate such problems to Ms, I'm trying my luck here. After the latest Windows Vista Updates _after_ August 11th 2007 I installed on August 25th, Vista randomly crashes with a blue screen and white garbage pixel blocks on it and immediately reboots. After I removed the updates the problem is gone. The updates were released after August 11th, the last time I installed updates, and before August 25th. I'm using an Acer Aspire 5051 AWXMi notebook with 1 GB RAM and a Radeon Xpress 1100 with 64 MB RAM. I also noticed that the device driver for my eMPIA USB video and au…

Error 643 after attempting Windows Update
by Guest LarrySmith47- 16 replies
I recently was installing the regular Windows Updates which were automatically downloaded from the MS website. I got a message that one update failed to install properly and the information given was "error code 643". I clicked the "try again" button and got the same result. When I searched online help for information about "error 643" I got a large list of error codes but none of the first few pages included "error 643" in the text. As usual, there was no additional information so I am left with the choice of posting this question or simply ignoring the update. I have no clue as to what the update involves or what I might be missing because it failed to …

Can't Access Microsoft Update
by Guest smee99@gmail.com- 3 replies

I recently installed a new, larger hard boot drive and cloned all the data from the old drive to the new. When I tried to access Microsoft Windows Update, I got the following message: Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site. This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems only. To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/. Also, I get control panel program errors for hotplug.dll and hdwwiz.cpl when I try to safely remove a USB flash drive. Both problems seemed to start at the same time. I am running Win 2K sp4 on a dell …

microsoft/windows update - failed status - help please to try inst
by Guest medindexer- 4 replies

I've got the message: Error Code: 0x800706BA Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following resource for several updates a few months back. Microsoft says to try instal again but doesn't seem to say clearly (in my moderately decent search) how to update each of them (is there any way they can all be installed together). They all seem to have the same error message but I've not managed to find help specific to this error code.

WSUS 3.0 Server not able to Synchronize
by Guest hall27- 2 replies

I have been trying to get my WSUS 3.0 server to sychronize with the Windows Update site. I am able to access the web site and search for updates, but cannot import any updates. When using the WSUS console I get the following error: WebException: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden. I do have a proxy server (that does not require an ID or password) set in the Update Source and Proxy Server section under Options. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this error?

BITS 'Fails to Start' Problem on Vista Has Solution
by Guest Matt Campbell- 0 replies

Please add this fix to the Microsoft KB. The solution to the BITS (Background Intelligent Tranfer Service - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/331716) startup problem (thereby making the O/S unstable and making downloads of updates pretty much impossible) seems to have an answer. However no solution is discussed in the KB, or so it seems. I did this myself and it fixed the problem for me. Why does it work? I have no idea. The answer is posted here: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/30563319/bits-service-fails-to-sta.aspx Text: 'This was the third newsgroup I have posted to and this has become a bit of a sore point. Vista Update Client 7.0.6000.381 fails (Error 80070002)
by Guest Merlin- 3 replies
Hi, on a FSC T4215 with Vista Business (DE version), everytime I try to run Windows Update, Vista prompts me to install the new 7.0.6000.381 update client (since it came out), but the installation of the new update client fails, preventing me to receive any updates. None of the proposed solutions work fpr my configuration. What I did already: *) delete the SoftwareDistribution folder in order to re-install the update client *) turn on or off the "other MS updates option" as proposed in some newsgroups *) check WGA integrity: the diagnostic tool reports no WGA errors *) turn off all "unnecessary" processes and services, the antivirus software, the fir…

Vista Update 7.0.6000.381 Fails
by Guest Steve- 1 reply

For no obvious reason windows update failed trying to install the windows update software, version 7.0.6000.381. i went through all of the basic steps of clearing update history and download folders, and retrying. it just crashed right off the bat. In order to fix it I had to uncheck using Microsoft update to download additional updates for other products, then turning around and telling windows update to download additional updates. it then takes you to a web site to download Microsoft Update, once installed and the system rebooted, everything is back to normal... There's going to be a lot of stuck vista systems.... Windows update will be rendered…

Hi all, Hopefully this is an easy fix. I'm running WSUS 3 to update all my WinXP PCs running various versions of Office. One PC is requiring the Office XP SP3 update and is failing. When I go to this PC to manually install this update it asks for the path to beret.msi file which I'm assuming it wants the Office XP CD. It appears to have 2 default paths: a path for the original XP CD and a path for the network location of Office XP SP2. I guess it comes down to I don't want to have to put this CD in for every PC. I want WSUS to be 'hands off' and just install all the updates. Is there a way that I can bypass this check for the CD? If not (and…
