KB936782 won't download
by Guest dr_juice- 1 reply
I have tried, using both windows update and automatic updates, to download this security update for Windows Media Player 11. What happens is it says "Downloading" but gives no indication of file size/time remaining/etc. There is no status bar movement and automatic updates indicates 0% complete after an hour when the update should only take 44 minutes total to download. I need to get this downloaded so that I can connect to a college network tomorrow.

.Net Framework 1.1 Answer to Fixing Problems
by Guest Agapitus- 6 replies
Like many of you, I had trouble with .Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 after re-installing. If you go to this site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displayLang=en near the bottom of the page you will find .NET Framework SDK Version 1.1, download and run. Then go to update site and it will tell you to install .Net Framework. Do this. Again go to the update site and it will tell you to download the Service Pack 1.1. You should find that this will now install. Good Luck.

Problems with XP Service Pack 2
by Guest Jeremy XP- 2 replies

I went to the Microsoft Update part of the site and it said that I had the high-priority update to XP Service Pack 2 to install. The information read Download size (total): 0 KB * Estimated time at your connection speed: 0 minutes * (*Downloaded ready to install) so I clicked on the install update button, accepted the terms, and it seemingly began to install (i.e. the green install bar moved all the way down) but as soon as it finished, it said that Windows XP Service Pack 2 had not been installed. Does anyone know what is wrong or how to fix this?

Windows and Office Updates not working
by Guest Cybermom- 9 replies
The "Updates are ready for your computer" yellow shield in the lower bar keeps popping up even after I have supposedly just downloaded the latest updates. Plus, the updates that say are being downloaded, but they only show file sizes of 0 mb being downloaded. So, it looks like none of the updates are actually taking. If it might have something to do with my Internet security software (Trend Micro PC-Cillin 2007), tell me how to fix it! This has been going on for several months now.

Updates will not install
by Guest guyplus2- 1 reply

I am running xp pro service pack 2, but can not get updates to install. The updates fail without an error message other than the statement that they did not install. The failed updates do not appear in the install history, nor do they generate any type of event log error. I have tried re-registering the windows update dlls, and removing the software distribution directories. At this point, I dont know what else to try and am hoping that someone here can help.

Update changed account settings?
by Guest Eric- 0 replies
When I logged into my Vista administrator account this morning all settings (desktop, favorites, documents, etc) are back to the defaults when I first installed Vista. The files that normally are used are still on the hard drive. My account is still passworded and the password has not changed. Any ideas on why the desktop and other settings are not being read correctly and how to reset this to work properly? I have not changed any of the settings and am the only non-restricted account on the computer. TIA

August update and Windows XP problems
by Guest d31m- 2 replies
Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has experienced reduced performance using XP since August updates and where I might find any information on how to either fix or rollback my system so it doesn't run like a dog? Was working fine until the latest update. Haven't downloaded any new software and run full virus scan (clean), and can only assume that this spontaneous poor performance coincides with the latest update. If anyone could post a link, or point me in the right direction, would be much appreciated. Problems include henious performance after about 30 minutes of use, internet connection problems and Explorer not shutting down properly. Running …

by Guest Matty- 9 replies

I had help this morning (8/23/07 9:51 a.m. PST) from this newsgroup when my Windows Update was stuck at trying to install Windows Installer 3.1. I got Installer 3.1 to install and Windows update then listed 76 other updates I need. Problem is, none of these 76 updates will install. I then tried just installing the first three - no success. Tried installing just the first in the list - no success. Tried installing from the MS update webpage - it downloaded the files but couldn't install. I tried what someone said in another thread worked for him - set Windows Update to automatically download and install. I did that (set it to automatically DL and inst…

After the Auto Update mid-August, I found that business software no longer would open and file msxml3.dll had become "unregistered." Many hours and attempts later I found help at this site below. Now I'm back up (and I've turned OFF Auto Updates). http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/solving-setup-errors-by-using-the-subinacl-tool-to-repair-file-and-registry-permissions.aspx

WUA Offline Scan returns updates not in scan CAB file
by Guest Tyrel- 1 reply
I am using the WUA API to scan machines for available updates. These machines do sometimes have access to the Internet, but not always. So I am using the offline scan package (wsusscn2.cab) to scan these machines. However, I have discovered (by extracting the cab file and what's inside it) that my scans on these machines are returning updates that aren't even in the CAB file! Why am I getting updates returned from a scan that aren't in the CAB file, and how can I prevent this from happening? Thanks.
