Update Problems
by Guest billf- 6 replies

The last 2 times I received a Vista update (home premium edition) it broke my Outlook software. When I launched the program it stated "Outlook is not your default email program" even though it is set that way in Program Defaults. When I tried to send or receive mail, I received a "Not Implemented" error. I had to insert the Office Professional CD, launch Setup, and select "Repair". The program ran for about 10 minutes, then required a reboot. After that Outlook ran ok. Am I the only one having this problem? Is MS aware of this? Can or will they fix it?

How would you fix this error?
by Guest Paul- 3 replies

When accessing the Update site, you receive the 0x80072EE2 or 0x80072EFD error. Hi all, I've done what it says here: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/showarticle.aspx?articleid=32&ln=en&IsMu=True And here http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/showarticle.aspx?articleid=48&ln=en&IsMu=True Neither work. I used to have Comodo, (firewall), which was causing the prob previously, but now that it has been removed I'm still getting this annoying error. I also reset the settings in IE 7, Didnt help, and also tried it in firefox with the addon. Still the same error. So, does anyone know what else I could try? …

New catalog - where is the XML file or at least the data
by Guest Meta Cat- 1 reply

I provide help to many people who do not have Broadband so I need the Catalog to cope with the size and volume of updates. I had written a tool which parsed the XML file, sorted the updates into ascending date and worked out which was relevant to the system - very basic - Win98 or XP. It also chose the latest cumulative updates for the regular items - IE, OE... Can anyone tell me where the information now is? BTW re: new catalog - I do think that as well as a search we really do need a way of saying what system we want (i.e. select as well as search) the updates for - XP, Vista, XP 64 and for me the search would always default to descending date orde…

XP performance decrease
by Guest Laz777- 4 replies

since the latest rounds of updates, my system has seen a significant drop in performance. simply having winamp open and playing solitaire makes my computer logy as hell. I open task manager and my cpu is spiked at 100%, then it will drop to about 45 a second or two later. I have XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP2 with all current security updates, as of 8/15/07 Toshiba Satellite LS35 series, Intel Celeron M 410 1.46GHz, 1 GB RAM. I regularly clean my system deleting temp files, old install files, I defrag and use a registry cleaner about twice a week. I do believe this is update related...possibly .NET framework issues, seeing how that was the main theme o…

Windows XP Updates
by Guest Ed Hawley- 1 reply

I generally like to go into my add/remove programs portion of the control panel and remove unnecessary programs from time to time. I do not know if this is necessary but it should save disk space. I have been noticing that I have more and more Windows XP updates in there and I do not know if they can be removed or not. They all say they have been installed and they give the date. Can they be removed once they have been installed. At the present time, I have almost 140 of them listed. Also, why are they not deleted once they have been used to update the basic XP software or am I just confused on how they are used? Thanks! Ed

I installed the Vista updates published on 8/14. I restarted the computer to finish the update but my computer will not boot into Windows. Instead, it lags on a black screen. I have performed several system restores but the problem ALWAYS returns after I reinstall the updates. I am running Vista Ultimate (32bit) upgraded from WINXP on an HP dv2037us laptop with 2 gb of RAM. Anybody else having the same problem?

I am not sure it is related but after getting an automatic update last week the desktop background does not allow it to be altered. The background block, the browse and the position blocks are grayed and frozen. It only allows me to change the color. Any ideas what is going on and how I can retrieve the functionality

by Guest Erik Lukac- 1 reply

Hi all, I am using WSUS3.0 in Windows Server 2003 SP1 running in VMware. Somehow synchronizing fails for over than a month because WSUSService crashes. I can restart WSUSService manually by typing "net start WSUSService" in command line, but whenever it is synchronizing it fails between 10% and 15%. However Catalog synchronizes successfully (getting msg 10021). Syslog has some errors concerning WSUS: 10032 (Server cant download some updates) 364 (... File cert failure ...) 5144 (... SUSDB was cancelled by user or timed out after 1047 ms...) 7034 (Service "Update Service" exited unexpected. This already happened 13Times) Does anybody have an idea …

Help, update killed my computer
by Guest Rosey- 0 replies

I opened my laptop on the 16th and it said it had an automatic update. I was working and didn't have time to reboot so I refused it multiple times. In the middle of my work I accidently clicked "restart now" But the computer wouldn't come back up. I couldn't even reboot in safe mode, I tried multiple times. It would come up to a prompt screen, ask which mode I wanted to boot up in, and then I would select and it would run over all of the computer's information then the XP screen would come up and all the lights would go out, everything went out, and it took me back to the prompt screen. It was maddening. Finally a new screen came up. Something, RECOVERY, s…

can't connect to wsus server from XP computer
by Guest tlyczko- 2 replies

I set up WSUS in an ESX virtual machine and the entire install seemed to proceed okay, including synchronization, etc. I think I took the defaults for setting up the web server part, I did not see anything amiss during the setup or after setup. Within the WSUS server, connecting to the server via MMC works just fine. However, after setting up the WSUS console etc. on my XP box, I cannot connect to it, I get errors about IIS, making sure it is started, etc. I also can't do a simple http://wsus without getting an under construction page... I read there is no more WSUS web interface, it's all with the MMC now. I added myself to the WSUS administrators …

by Guest Vince- 2 replies

Hello: I just did my August updates today, I have one issue update 936782 will not download. I can not get it through automatic updates I can not get it going to the update site. At the windows update site it just sits there and says downloading but nothing ever happens. I have never had any problems getting updates before, the only issue I have ever had with updates is a few months ago I quit getting the green progress bar when scanning to see what updates I need but the page changes and I get the report even though I don't get the progress bar. If anyone can tell me why I am not getting the Media Player Update 936782 that would be great. Thanks…
