Windows Update and Repair or Restore Problem
by Guest Jonathan Esker- 5 replies

2 Problems: Why after a repair of XP does Windows Update not install updates? Why after repairing XP and restoring system state data does Windows Update report falsely that updates are installed when it appears to me they are not or Add/Remove Programs cannot locate them in order to uninstall them? After repairing a Windows XP Professional disk using a Slipstream XP SP2 disc, I finally got back up and running 90%, and Windows Update was showing like 77 Critical Updates available, but after downloading each of them, they would fail one after another during the installing phase, and end very fast just showing a box, with a list of the 77 failed. So, after …

Automatic Update Will Not Work Properly
by Guest Copying Excel Formulas- 2 replies

I have been having problems with Automatic Update for months now. Seems like the problems started just after installing Norton 360 (not sure it's related). In any event, because of other Norton caused problems, I've since removed it from my computer, but the AU problems persist. I've tried researching this problem but have not been able to find a solution. Neither Microsoft or Dell have been able to help. Dell suggested I reinstall Windows XP Media Center Version 2002 but I am reluctant to do that because I'm afraid I might lose everything and have to start over. I am very dependant on this computer. The seqence of events for this problem are as foll…

Dear All, Sorry for chipping in, but this is my last opportunity to get help. I jus bought two new laptops (one HP, secodn Fujitsu-Siemens) with VISTA. I was unable to install my printers despite downloading drivers form the manufacturers pages. One is Kyocers FS-1010, second is Lexmark AIO X6170. I get an error message - SubSpoolingApp is something, the second is error 0x00000002. Iwas able to fix the sub sopooling thing (from microsoft tech help), but then the second error pops up. WSUS targeting question
by Guest paulreims@gmail.com- 1 reply

Hello, I have installed WSUS 3 and configured the Computer Groups with the same name as the Organization Units in the Active Directory. For each OU in the Active Directory, there is a Computer Group in the WSUS. Now I want to do targeting with Group Policies. Do I have to create one Group Policy per OU or is there a possibility to tell the WSUS to use the same Computer Group name for each computer as the OU that it is located in in the Active Directory (variable in Group Policy property "Target Group Name for this Computer" or similar)? Thank you very much PR

Group Problems with Client Targeting
by Guest Tim Gowen- 6 replies

I have a Windows Servers group which seems to have developed some members that are not supposed to be in the group. The Windows Servers group contains only our W2K3 servers and DCs, but some XP machines are in the same WSUS group despite not being in the AD group that WSUS is (supposed to be) picking up. I have looked at this issue a lot, and have done plenty of research, but I can't work out what the problem is. Tim

Vista Failing when Updating, and in the marketplace.
by Guest Net Spaceman- 1 reply

This is my first real workout on Vista, besides the Beta, I am so dissapointed, I was hoping the rumors were hyped. Alas they were, if anything, understated. The "updates" are failing (out of 55 only 30 were sucessful) on a new, clean installation of Windows Vista on a new verified core duo system. The computer has blue screened three times in 2 days since I installed it. What the h__l does microsoft think? How can I sell this piece of Junk? (I will not) Windows 98SE was better than this... Gee Wizz M.S. get on the ball. I will advise my cust to stay far away from Vista for the near future at least a year. MS needs to do some MAJOR revamping…

Trouble after upgrading to Vista Ultimate
by Guest Tim- 0 replies

Hi, I recently purchased and installed an upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate. Everything seems to work fine except two things: 1) My sound stopped working. I still have a sound card installed and it appears to be operating. I tried updating the driver, but it said I was already running the latest version. My soundcard is a SigmaTel High Def Audio CODEC. When I check under hardware it says there is NO AUDIO DEVICE INSTALLED. 2) I can no longer use MS Terminal Services to log into a remote server that I usually work on. I can log into new servers, but when I try to log into the server I worked on before the upgrade I get an …

This update (KB937143), together with several others, downloaded on 14th August. When I restarted the system, I was unable to access the Internet from Internet Explorer - I was unable to access my router as well. This also happened last month with a similar update - KB933566. Unlike last month where KB929123 prevented me from accessing Windows Mail, everything else is working normally. I uninstalled KB937143 and was able to access the Internet again. I have set these updates as 'hidden' to prevent them from automatically installing and would be grateful for any advice on how to install these and similar updates in future without having the same problems. Have error code 0x8000FFFF Most recent Vista updates I was able to grab were on 6/17. I have tried updating in Safe Mode, same error occurs. Trying to uninstall the installed updates seems to fail without indicated error, the machine reboots with everything still installed. Everytime the machine reboots I get the "configuring updates" message. I also tried using Windows Update Server Update Services 3.0 and that yields the same error. Have disabled all non-ms services in MSconfig, and disabled most startup applications, does not help either. Tried getting rid of SoftwareDistribution folder Also tried net stop / start WuAuServ Any help wo…

Is windows update possible without administrator rights
by Guest Sirri- 2 replies
Dear all, I have a very annoying problem in our company. Our staff is using windows XP computers and it seems that microsoft automatic update can't update the computers when they are logged in with their power user accounts. This means that I will have to go trough all the computers once in a while and update computers with administrator rights. Our IT-support claims that there is nothing that can be done about it. So my question is can this be true? Is there really know way to have automatic updates installed without me logging in with administrator rights? This is really annoying and takes lot of time, so help is GREATLY appreciated. Best regards,…
