Hi all, After running winupdate every computer I have that runs XP SP2 has received the same problems: 1: Reviewing installed updates thru update.microsoft.com doesn't work. 2: When viewing network connections the folder is empy and a dialogbox states that the service may be disabled althoug it is running. 3: When writing new e-mails with Outlook one gets a box stating that Word as the default editor is unavailable. 4: They also have trouble with a custom made app trying to connect to their server. I'm in a small corporate network running windows xp professional sp2. Some of the systems have the automatic update greyed out. I have tried many of the offered fixes servises.msc,gpedit.msc, finding the inf folder and reinstalling au, reregistering many of the .dll files associated with windows update. None of these have worked. Are there any other suggestions that i may try?

Since August updates IE7 vs Website opening has a wall?
by Guest Dr. B- 0 replies

(Running Win XP).After the August 15-17 updates Explorer 7 will not allow Yahoo to go past 2 buttons. I can log on to Yahoo but when I hit the mail button or Compose to send an email it lights up the button but will not go forward. This also opens web sites to the point of downloading and then it won't recognize the command when I hit the download button. Even though it appears to light up the button. I also get a blue screen when I first open IE7 and it says "runonce.msn.com" in the command line and the tab says to "Customize your settings" I can't change the home page it always starts at this blue screen. What have I done wrong? Very frustrated. Can…

I am getting a similar error with a window 2003 x64 server. I have upgraded my WSUS server to version 3.0.6000.374. I was able to update the systems using the WSUS 3.0 server several times. Now, on my x64 client systems I am getting the error: EEHndlr WARNING: Failed to populate ServiceStartup entries in Cache: error 0x80070002 in the clients %SystemRoot%\WindowsUpdate.log. I try to force updates using wuauclt.exe /detectnow and /resetauthorization The WSUS server knows about the client and knows that it needs updates, but I the clients are always getting the 0x80070002. I have tried reinstalling the windows update program on the clients. I …

Windows Vista home basic runs on a compaq. Installing windows update files: KB936782, KB936021, KB933579, KB937143, fails. A new check finds the same update files. The history shows the 80070003 error. I followed the procedure for this error described in the troubleshooter, but it does not help. Does any have a suggestion??

.NET Framework updates are killing me
by Guest KenC- 8 replies

I don't even know what .NET Framework is. The latest automatic updates failed to install an update to version 2.0. When I went to Control Panel to fix it, I was told the installation source was missing. MS help pages said to provide the installation source. All I have is my retail WinXP Pro CD. That didn't work. MS instructions on manual removal and reinstall of .NET Framework do not work at all. In particular, MSIZAP and DOTNETFIX do nmot work as described, whetever they are. I am still left with a .Net Framework 1.1 that I can not remove. Installer runs every time I reboot. I have no idea why. My list of failed updates keeps growing. W…

I have spent hours scouring this forum to no avail. I see that there are a lot of people not able to update but every story has been different. They are: Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB936960) Security Update for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP (KB936782) Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181) Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB938127) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB937143) Windows Malicious Software Rem…

Since the Microsoft Security updates for August 14, 2007 our domain has had a degraded download speed from the internet. Our Outlook has problems with e-mails with attachments. When we disable the Microsoft windows firewall the problem disappears. Have there been reports of difficulties with this set of updates? Thanks! -- brian

Windows/Microsoft update problem

Hello all, I ran in to a problem that Windows automatic update kicks on with the yellow shield at the taskbar during regular business hours. It tremendously slowed down our network. To the point where websites are timing out. I placed a call with Microsoft yesterday asking them what IP addresses Windows Automatic Update uses and heres the list that they gave us: • http://download.windowsupdate.com • https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com • http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com • http://*.update.microsoft.com • http://*.download.windowsupdate.com • http://update.microsoft.com • http://*.windowsupdate.co…

I downloaded August's monthly updates for Windows XP including KB936643, KB936048 and KB940602, all three of which failed to install. Now I can't load Excel, it tries to reinitialise Office Professional 2003 but fails because it can't find SKU011.cab and refuses to accept it from the original cd. What do I do now?

Missing ose.exe
by Guest doug@dougndiya.com- 2 replies

I have tried everything and nothing I can find on Microsoft website or any discussion threads tells me how to replace my missing ose.exe except to reinstall from the CD which I don't have. It was not included with my computer. Microsoft Office 2003 was pre-installed and while trying to enter the key I keep getting the error for the ose but repairing or reinstalling from add/remove programs list has the same results. Where can I get this missing file?

Windows Vista Upgrade Problems
by Guest Hockey Playa- 1 reply

I recently purchased a Compaq Presario SR5050NX PC with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. I activated it after I got everything set-up. I tried using the Windows Upgrade Disc that came with the system and it told me to enter in the Vista product key, which I did EXACTLY, but it wont allow me to continue saying that the key cannot be activated/accepted. What gives? And I have already asked for help from HP and they have told me to ask Microsoft.
