The solution provided by tta1989 works perfectly for installing KB914440 as well, this optional update returning the same 0x8007F0EA error upon install. Help! My computer is not running right after Aug 14th updates
by Guest Carlos at work- 8 replies

I'm on windows XP pro. i let xp update before I left the office yesterday. Came in today. My computer was super slow to boot to log-in, and terribly slow to actually load windows. Once loaded, no office applications will open properly, no network connections or drivers are loading, cant get to system, cant launch system restore, cant launch services window. I have already tried booting in safe mode and launching and deploying a system restore, which was done successfully but after rebooting to normal mode, I get the same result. All the updates have been removed. I'm afraid I am going to have to restore windows, using the XP CD. Any suggestio…

I know this is an old post, but hope you are still monitoring it! Followed your link posted below but could not run listool.exe. Error message box titled 'Microsoft' says "Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted Cabinet file". What do I do now??? Problems with Intellipoint mouse
by Guest Leon Rooks- 1 reply

While playing the game "Sid Meiers Railroads" my mouse suddenly lost function of its horizontal control, would not move side to side at all. Upon restarting it would operate normally for a limited and variable time, then lose it's horizontal movement again. After a few weeks the problem cleared up, but reoccured while playing the same game again. Aside from stopping playing this game, my favorite, can anyone give me any hints on how to restore normal mouse function short of reinstalling my O.S.? I'm running Windows XP upgrade over a copy of Windows 98 second edition. Thanks. Leon Rooks leonrooks@hotmail.com

KB938829 causes stop: C0000221
by Guest Biggles- 0 replies

Hi, An office PC running XP Professional had KB938829 installed and after rebooting got a blue screen stop:C0000221 with checksum error on gdi32.dll CHKDSK found nothing wrong when the system was booted from another partition, so I overwrote the c:/windows/system32/gdi32.dll dated 19.6.2007 with one from another update from August and the stop went away. Reloaded KB938829 again and the blue screen stop came back. The 19.6.2007 gdi32.dll was back. Repeated the fix and the problem went away again - it seems like this is a bad fix at least for one HP system, and a google search brings up 2 other similar cases from the last 24 hours - unfortunately writte…

Office 2003 Updates Failed

I'm running Windows XP Professional and I have three Office 2003 updates that failed. I've tried rebooting and trying again. I ran the troubleshooter on the update website and followed the instruction to check and start the ose service (which was running as it should be). The updates still won't install. They are 1. Security Update for Excel 2003, Sercurity Update for Office 2003, and Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter. Does anyone know why this happens and how can I get these updates installed? Thanks.

IE7 fails to connect after Windows update adds Augusts 14th update
by Guest Zom-Bunny- 7 replies

Hi you'll like this, and hope you can help. I ran windows update August 14, and rebooted my machine as requested, up to that point everything was fine. I logged in and tried to surf the web but IE would have none of it!! I ran the diagnostics piece, it did little but it did say I had a range of network cards installed, and that it couldn't find one to use!!! (I've an on-board card, and a Wireless card, both check out fine) I have Firefox, so I tried it, it worked fine, so I tried Opera, that worked fine, so IE has the issue...whatever it is. I've a P4 XP Pro SP2 DELL desktop, it has McAfee VirusScan 8.5i P1 + Anti-Spy ware installed with McAfee Firew…

My Windows XP Home SP2 system is stuck in an update loop. All but one of the updates yesterday installed ok. Now the yellow shield in the taskbar tray keeps appearing and wanting to install an update, the same update. When I run the install, it installs KB890830 Malicious Software Removal Tool. No errors are reported and it says "Done!" at the end. The yellow shield disappears for about 1 minute, pops back up again, and the process repeats over and over again. I've installed it about a dozen times but the shield keeps popping up. I've rebooted - no help. The shield just won't go away and stay away. How can I diagnose what's going wrong and get t…

Since probably sometime in June or July I have been unable to get updates from Windows Update. Error Code:0x8007000B. This is OEM version of windows xp pro sp2. Problems with NET Framework 1.1 security update
by Guest Freewheeling- 4 replies

Help! My Windows XP Pro system keeps installing the same version of Security Update for .NET Framework 1.1 SP 1 (KB928366) over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. This all started rather suddenly, with this update, over a month ago. I read some of the documentation that suggests un-installing older versions of the .NET Framework so I tried that, but the folder where the older version's files are supposed to be stored no longer exists on my system. Hence, I can't uninstall the older versions, and Update insists on installing the new security update every time I shut my computer down. If I choose not to install it when I shut down it wai…

Vista Update History Gone
by Guest narcan- 5 replies

I recently noticed that the Update History in Windows Update is empty and that the Updates I've hidden before are missing as well (this section is empty too). I'm not sure when this happened as I don't check this often. After I ran an update session however, the updates which I installed in that session do show in Update History, however the old ones are still missing. Anyone any idea as how to fix this? (I'm also wondering where these update history lists are stored on the system). I'm running Vista Ultimate btw. Friendly regards, Kees Spierings

Add/Remove Programs
by Guest John Huetteman- 4 replies

I am having problems when I enter Add/Remove Programs - none of the "change" or "remove" buttons appear so I can't add or remove anything. Also, I noticed there are a million new/old programs that I have never seen before. Since I had recently cleaned my Disc and erased all of the restore points, I can't restore my computer to a better previous time and I noticed that there was a program installed that was mentioned on the restore point called Software Redistribution Service 2.0 or something like that which is really messing everything up! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?

I get an "optional" update notice to the "CXT - Modems PCI Soft Data Fax Modem with Smart CP" What is this update for? If it is anounced in my computer, which has Vista operating system, does that means that I can use the update or whatever it is for in my system and that I need the update? Thanks in advance.
