I accidentally deleted the file I needed to answer. Anyway, I was complaining about not being able to download XP updates when notified by the yellow shield. I tried to download them as a group and as individual files. It tells me that a file should download in 1 minute at my speed, but many minutes later there is no change in the download process. This same problem happened last month with downloads. I remember some workarounds, but did not make note of them because I thought …

The yellow shield popped up this evening and offered one update - KB933566, which was one I installed with success last month? After scanning, MS Home gives me 9, but not the one offered via the shield, plus a Roots Cert update. I can see that this shield is going to stay with me - so should I delete last months install and do it again? Rgds Antioch

Get Updates for More Products
by Guest LastMile- 1 reply

I unchecked "get updates for more products" in Vista Windows Update to troubleshoot a failed update installation. Now when I click on the yellow box with light blub to re-select "get updates for more products" I get sent in a loop. The opt-in webpage doesn't load, rather a Microsoft Update page telling me to use Windows Update from the Control Panel. Windows Update the loads another instance and my update settings are still for Windows Only. Is there any way I can reset my Microsoft Update opt-in status so that I get the option to agree to the T&C again and go back to automatically downloading Office updates, etc.

I am experiencing Vista update install problems. I have 4 updates from 7/10/07 that cannot install (937077, 935280, 933928, 936357). I now have 6 updates from 8/14/07 that will not install (938123, 936782, 936021, 935807, 933579, 937143). All updates fail to install each night after an auto restart. I am running Vista Ultimate on a custom built PC ( Intel MB, Intel Dual Core Processor). My Windows experience Index is 5.3. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Autoupdate XP: shutdown and install updates
by Guest George Valkov- 2 replies

I noticed that on a lot of XP computers (in my university, my friedns' ...), when I click shutdown and install updates it takes a lot of time 10 to 15 minutes. There is a lot of disk activity and the progress bar is very slow. I am curious to know why? PS: I haven't used XP for about 3 years or more. I have one license for Windows 2003 Server Enterprise on my home PC, I download and install updates.exe files manually (auto-update is disabled) and it only takes a few seconds to install all of them.
