Vista Sucks
by Guest davenoh- 6 replies

My suggestion is give people back their money when they tell you Vista Sucks !!! Getting Vista is like buying a new car and waiting to get fixes before you can use the car. What good is a PC without software and hardware that will work with the Operating System ? I trashed my Vista copy that came with my PC after two days of not being able to sue any of my software and Dell telling me I could use it to surf the Web while I waited for patches and fixes. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. .NET Framework update preventing standby 1 2
by Guest krisbke- 26 replies
- 1.2k views
Hi there. Since yesterday's updates, I'm unable to put my computer into standby. When I flip the lid open again, there's a message saying 'Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1.4322 Update' prevented it going into standby. It also says I should disable the service. Clearly, I can do that and I imagine it would work, but is there another solution? If not, how important is this update and what would I lose by not having it running? I'm using XP Home SP2 on an HP Pavilion dv5000 and would be glad to give any other useful info. Thanks for your help with this, if anyone knows what is going on!

Windows Update scan
by Guest ncasey@nospam.postalias- 0 replies

When using the Windows Update site, what is scanned to determine missing patches? Is the scan searching the registry to determine installed patches or is the scan actually checking file versions to determine if a patch is needed. The reason I ask is because our security scanning tool is only checking the registry for installed patches. Our desktop staff says the list of missing patches is incorrect because the way they are installing patches isn’t making the registry entries (SMS packages or something like that) Thanks

For the last 2 weeks I"ve been trying to get Microsoft Update to sucessfully finish its install of 2 secuirty fixes (one for Excel & one for Outlook) but keep running into this error. As suggested by the pop up help, I've searched thorugh the FAQ's and Find Solutions but haven't found any answers. The third suggestion was to try here. Before posting, I did a search but it did not turn up any previous messges regarding this error. Any idea ideas on what's happening?

I have got the same problem when trying to use Microsoft Update instead of Windows update (after many attempts Windows Update finally works but the instructions I found were not complete. It was said to close IE but a full restart proved to be necessary). Note. I must say I have Windows update problems now on nearly every computer I use. Clearly it is not robust software. Here is the part of the file showing the failure: 2007-07-19 13:37:48:203 4024 fbc Misc =========== Logging initialized (build: 7.0.6000.374, tz: +0200) =========== 2007-07-19 13:37:48:203 4024 fbc Misc = Process: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe 2007-07-19 13:37:48…

Multiple Updates = Multiple Restarts?
by Guest RemsX- 0 replies

This may sound like a silly question, but I'm in the process of running Windows Update for the first time in several months. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate and some of the updates in the past didn't install. I tried several things and they still wouldn't work so I just disable Windows Update. Today I noticed that a new version of Windows Update was available so I thought I'd try all the updates. There were a lot of them totalling back all the way to early April. So far I have no reason to necessarily doubt it's success, but I'm worried because each time my computer turns on it says "configuring updates," but then it restarts ("shutting down"). Th…

Windows update "stuck"downloading updates!
by Guest pamacs- 4 replies

Folks- An automatic update was in process through quite a few restarts which were required due to line problems. The line problems have been resolved but although my tray icon shows "Downloading updates: 35%" no further downloading is taking place. I have run a registry cleaner, done a restart, verified that the process wuauclt.exe was activated but the update remains stuck at 35%. How can I determine which update this is? How can I get it to actually continue? How can I terminate it and have it start again? -Gary

by Guest pintree3- 1 reply

Error Code: 0x8007007E Windows Genuine Validation tool (KB892130) did not install I know why: I had deleted (KB892130) from the registry as well as all entries of LegitCheckControl.dll and wgacustom.dll and the equivalent files in Windows were deleted. I also deleted the entries in the log file referring to above. Why I did the above. a week ago I formatted the HDD and reinstalled Windows XP home SP2. Windows Correctly identified my legit copy of Widows. Since SP was added as well as other updates. It did the same for all Microsoft Office updates SP3 and others. All that is until I tried to install some plug-ins. Now suddenly The validation assumed I was…

Windows 2003 SP2 & WSUS 3.0
by Guest Dave Petzel- 0 replies
I have seen several threads asking about this but no answers, so I am going to post again. I have recently deployed WSUS 3.0 and everything seems to be working EXCEPT service pack 2 for Windows 2003 on some machines. ALL other updates seem to be working OK and even SP2 on some machines appears to be working. Here is what I can share about the machines that are not succeeding. When I view the status report for one of the problem machines it lists the update "Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (32-bit x86)" with an approval of install and a status of downloaded. Machines are configured VIA GPO and are set to install updates every day at 3:00 AM (This …

System Restore Failure - Norton Internet Security 2007?
by Guest Lifesnadir- 1 reply
I recently installed a new Norton - Internet Security 2007. Also downloaded 1 Windows Update. Now, System Restore runs but "cannot restore to this date, pick another"... From what I've read on these forums and from Bert Kinney MS-MVP web pages, Norton is the culprit??!! Questions: 1. I faithfully create restore points. Are they really being created now, or does Norton interfere with that TOO? Is it only creating phony points? 2. Is there ANY PERMANENT fix coming from Norton? My NV 2005 renewed 2006 & 2007 did NOT interfere with Restore. 3. Which is the BEST product if I choose to replace Norton? And, anyone want a new shiny coaster? …
