Eric - after I loaded the Windows Installer Clean Up - I looked for Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0 - if I removed this version, will I be going backwards in versions? The second question, if you suggest not to remove, why is the scan showing I need an upgrade? by Guest Helen- 3 replies

Hi there I am having a problem with XP SP2 install. I had a laptop which hubby decided might like a cup of coffee - it didnt. The laptop was replaced with one with Vista which I decided I didnt like. I formatted the HDD and installed XP professional on it and found all the current drivers from Toshiba and am slowly setting it all up manually. I have now got to the XP SP2 install and the install keeps hanging at the "checking product key" stage. I followed the directions in this post about changing the product key: Subject: Re: WINXP Pro - SP2 install "checking product key" 6/28/2007 10:48 AM PST By: realcestmoi In: microsoft.public.windowsup…

by Guest Sandy Sue- 5 replies

I have two HP Pavillion notebooks, one slightly older than the other, both running XPHome, SP2. I am their only user/administrator. The Windows Automatic Updates setting I've always used is Notify me but don't automatically install them. I always click Apply before exiting the dialog box. Recently both computers settings return to the preferred/default Automatic setting I think when the computer is shut down and started again. But not always, as now I'm noticing. This only got my attention when the Automatic Updates box started loading in the middle of my work. I checked Restart Later and went on working. It happened so often, I finally started confirmi…

Xp updates after a repair install
by Guest Hawkins- 4 replies

I have an early edition of XP installed and I have a slipstreamed a bootable CD with SP2. I ran a repair install, which apart from a couple of non Windows program errors, seemed to have worked. So I went to the Windows update site and after the latest installer and WGA were installed I was able to download a total of 77 critical and security updates. These were validated as part of the download process but when I pressed the install button the whole lot failed and the message said try again. I did this but still no luck. Is there something I missed such as only accepting a few of the updates at a time and if so which ones should be selected first and whic…

When using Update, it appears to work correctly for the express option, ie it trawls away with the progress bar moving and after an obscene length of time reports no updates to download however if I click on Custom then the progress bar space appears but no green appears in it and nothing appears to happen. Bluetooth Was Extracted
by Guest InSorteDiablo- 1 reply

Prior to learning about the details of bluetooth technology, I uninstalled the Bluetooth program on this computer. I don't know if the Bluetooth component of Bluetooth is still in this computer since I cannot find it on programs. Is there a method of restoring this single component without having to resort to Software repair device to an earlier date? I bought another Bluetooth device and installed it, but it only plays Quicktime. I am wanting this to work on WMP.
