I had the same Net Framework 1.1 failure to install upates problem. A Microsoft Tech solved the problem for me with two different methods.. One worked, the other didn't. This is them. I'm leaving in his detailed directions. This behavior can be caused if the following registry keys are corrupt. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Patches\7FCDE114D557E4147AB4D3DC56385F98 HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Patches\3574AFE896173CC42AB8A061348B3AB9 To resolve this issue: 1. Click Start, click Run, type REGEDIT, and click OK. 2. After we open the registry editor, locate this branch using the (+) icon in the left pane: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Patches\7FCDE114D5…

IS MS going to fix update kb935807 yet?
by Guest Steve- 5 replies

Has MS fixed update for kb935807 recently? I know that everyone (including myself) have been having problems with this update, but it's been a week since updates have been released but it seems that no one is having any luck what so ever.

Hi PA Bear, Do you have any idea whether SP3 will require mandatory upgrading to IE7 and/or WMP 11? Alan From: "PA Bear" <PABearMVP@gmail.com> Subject: Re: Install XP on new hard drive -- have to load all updates? Date: Thursday, July 19, 2007 12:00 AM Not a zillion, no, but you'll need to install WinXP SP2 and then about 80 or so post-SP2 updates. Sorry, no "mega-update" until SP3 is released (and it's not even in beta yet). -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin DTS-L.org Mel wrote: > Do I have to install a zillion updates if I install XP on a new hard > drive? …

Windows Update not showing up properly
by Guest Vlad- 0 replies

I just received a new Dell and it came with Windows Vista installed. Everything was fine through initial setup, but during the middle of the day, a security alert popped up in my tray telling me my automatic updates were off. So, I went to turn them on, and it wouldn't do it automatically, so I had to do it manually, when I went into the control panel to access automatic updates, I found that automatic updates and the whole Windows Update didn't work. I open the window and nothing is in there except the green shield icon. It looks like a bug, but I don't know. Does anybody know what the problem may be?

I would suggest that Microsoft issue a bug fix as a matter of urgency for windows vista explorer to adress issues where explorer conflicts with MPEG files i.e it tries to restart then closes when the user attempts to view, rename, move or open an MPEG file? ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. RE: KB917283 not installing

I cannot get it to install either and am about ready to call MS Support at 800-936-5700. They offer FREE phone support for security issues and helped me immensely yesterday after trouble installing a .NET 1.1 patch, then getting me converted to 2.0, which is where I'm at now with the current install problem. I noticed your blog date is a week old so I'm hoping you've discovered a solution to share by now before I make the call? skip "Sabo, Eric" wrote: > I cannot get KB917283 to install on a Windows 2003 SP1 running Exchange 2003 > Service Pack 2. Error KB928366 - Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework
by Guest Miss_Sue- 16 replies

I received security updates last night. When it tried to load, I got the message The following updates did not install: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366) I've tried repeatedly to run the update, but get the same message everytime. What is this upgrade for? Is it something I need to have installed? What do I need to do to get rid of the update box? If I x out, the update symbol stays at the bottom of my screen.

Hi all, Windows SBS 2003 that I had to reinstall (repair) today. Reinstallation went fine, however, brought me back to IE 6. When I try Microsoft (Windows) Updates, the site goes into "Checking for the latest version of Windows Updating software..." and a yellow pop-up bar for AxtiveX appears. I install ActiveX. The page briefly reloads and goes AGAIN into "Checking for the latest version of Windows Updating software..." with ActiveX warning, and on and on and on. It is not a firewall issue. Windows firewall is OFF, and the only firewall we have is our router with which everything worked just yesterday. Services "Automatic updates", ""BITS" are star…

spininst.exe
by Guest larrycole12@msn.com- 2 replies

Can I delete the 100 folders that have a spuninst.exe?? Message: I noticed that my WINNT dir has a hundred directories with a name like $NtUninstallKB873339$ which contain a file called spuninst.exe. Thru some online research I learned that these come from a patch/hotifx install and other types of install, but mainly patches. Can I safely remove these folders and spuninst.exes? Can I just delete them? Or will this mess up my OS. I have ones that date back to 2001, I would at least like to get rid of the ones prior to Jan-2007.

SP2 on Win2003 Server breaks connection with WSUS3
by Guest justmark- 1 reply

I have two 2003 servers that had been running SP1. I've upgraded both to SP2, in addition to adding the recommended hotfixes. Anyway, I have a WSUS3 server and as soon as I updated these two servers, they fell out of connection with WSUS3. I've run wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow on both servers but they still aren't appearing in WSUS. For fun, I deleted one of my XP Pro SP2 workstations from WSUS and then ran that command it brought the workstation back (for what that's worth here). Anyway, I can't figure out how to tell WSUS3 to supervise these servers again. Any suggestions I could try? Thanks, Mark

Shutdown Error due to Installing Updates
by Guest JCO- 1 reply

On my daughters computer, you can't shutdown anymore. Instead, it says its installing an update, but it never finishes. I managed to get the update installed correctly, however, the shutdown does the same thing. I guess since I got the update installed by downloading and installing myself, the computer is still confused, thinking it has to install it when I shutdown (creating the same issue over and over again). Must be something in the Registry telling the computer to shutdown in this manner that I can reset?

Do I have to install a zillion updates if I install XP on a new hard drive? The old hard drive died. I have a new 250gb drive installed with nothing on it. When I use my 5 year-old XP CD to load XP on this "virgin" c:\ drive, am I going to have to spend hours downloading and loading update after update, or is there some way to get one recent mega-update that will save me several evenings of work? Thanks for any help. Mel

KB928365 Failed (XP, SP2), Common NET Framework Uninstall/Reinstall Fix Not Possible
by Guest stewart- 5 replies

Okay, I've had to uninstall and reinstall NET Framework 2.0 several times over the last few months to fix previous failed updates, but now there is a new twist - Net Framework 2.0 refuses to uninstall. The uninstall fails after reporting a program is dependent on NF 2.0. Not a clue what that program might be (just provides a bunch of numbers - really wonderful user interface). So now I have an update that won't install, with the only known fix being to reinstall something that flatly refuses to uninstall. Just frigging dandy. Now what should I do? The only things installed since those previous incidents is a bunch of MS Office applications - hundreds of me…
