Update fails reply from microsoft 1 2

I have posted replies to several treads regarding the update problems we are having I sent an e-mail to microsoft and received my reply this morning . Here it is for all to see. Its way too complicated for me to even attempt . I am too old and computer illiterate to start fooling around with this stuff .. I may just not update and if my computer crashes I'll buy a Mac. I think Microsoft should write a new update that works Why do they think everything must be corrupted . Maybe their update was written incorrectly . It seems strange so many people have corrupted files all of a sudden . -- Fran Thank you for contacting Microsoft Windows Update Support.…

WINDOWS UPDATE FROZE MY SYSTEM
by Guest Liza- 1 reply

Hello. I've got a Sony Vaio and Windows XP Home Edition. After installing July's Windows Update, Windows only reaches the loading bar screen on the next boot-up. The only way to have the notebook running is by booting it into Safe Mode, then restarting Windows in its normal mode. I've tried restoring the system to an earlier date but it hasn't worked out the whole issue, simply because when the notebook tries to restart, the original problem is there again: the system cannot progress further than the loading blue bar screen. I haven´t installed any software other than the Windows Update that is downloaded automatically. PLEASE, HELP!!!! THANK YOU…

1st updates failed, now no history
by Guest Fred B.- 3 replies

Last week's updates all failed to install, so I followed the "troubleshooting" procedure of "disabling" Windows Update service, deleting the appropriate files, and trying again. After 3 attempts with no success, I gave up for the day. At that point my "update history" showed ALL the patches I'd downloaded to date, including those that failed most recently. Last night I decided to try the "old manual" install method. I went over to Microsoft\Downloads, retrieved the updates that failed, and tried a manual installation, one at a time. Each succeeded. Now for my "new" problem - Windows update "View Update History" now shows ONLY those patches that were…

Windows Updates- Error Code 8004002
by Guest tom b- 1 reply

When trying to install updates, this error codew comes up. As well as this, I am unable to change the settings of Windows Updates, as when I confirm changes by clicking 'ok' the page doesn't close. Finally, the shut down button on the start menu now permanently says 'installs updates and shuts down your computer.' However, when this is selected, it begins to download update 1/16, then shuts down, failing to download anything. I would be really grateful if anyone could help. I'm not really well informed about computers, so if you could try and make any solution in rather simple terms that would be great. Thanks in advance, Tom

KB935280 Error Message
by Guest 2604ashleigh- 2 replies

The other day my computer automatically updated (vista) as it normally does. When I restarted my computer it came up with an error saying something along the lines of "the driver is not compatible with the operating system you are trying to install" which is WEIRD. The negative effect alongside the error msg was that I could not connect to my wireless network. When I was trying to figure out how to fix the thing, I thought maybe it was one of the updates that set off this error. I uninstalled KB935280 because it was 'recommended' not 'important'. Upon restarting, the system was back to normal and no problems whatsoever. This morning I turned my com…

MicroSoft update fix KB935807 (and others?)
by Guest Beau- 3 replies

I just received this e-mail regarding my problem with update KB935807. I don't know if this fix pertains to just this particular update or even it it works but I am going to give it a try. Below is my reply to the Vista support specialist and below that his original message. _____________________________________________________ Thank you Neo for your quick and detailed reply. Even though I am experienced and can execute your directions this is over the heads of the novice and even some average computer users. Seeing as failed update installations are very common wouldn't it be better to fix the updates before issuing them? The newsgroups, including th…

Windows XP pro chrashes on install/repair
by Guest JackC21- 0 replies
Hi I'm having so trouble with my computer the issue is Windows will not repair itself or doesn't want to be re-installed. It crashes always at the same place asking for a driver for the sound car. The only option I have is to re-start the computer and Windows just go back to it setup mode, and then crashes again, so it's a never ending loop. Any ideas what should I do to overcome that problem? Cheers Jack

RE: [Error number: 0x80070020]

If anyone out there has Spybot Search & Destroy and while trying to run Windows update you receive the error number 0x80070020 and this message: "Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page". I corrected the problem in my computer. It was the "Tea Timer" in Spybot S&D. Bring up Spybot S&D and click on mode.....then select advanced mode....click yes in the pop up box. Then click tools at lower left....then click resident.....then uncheck the Resident "Tea Timer" box. X out and that should do it and hopefully most will be able to get the Windows updates. You can go back after updating and put "Tea T…

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service
by Guest Ray Hayes- 4 replies

This update KB929729 offers itself immediate after the install successfully runs. For some reason, it never gets it that it has already been installed. So far I've installed it 13 times since it came down on 7/10/2007. How do I get this update to stop prompting for a new install? I'm running Vista Home Premium. Ray -- Ray Hayes http://www.rhbe.net

I just applied a hardware update from Creative for a WDM file, and it's messed up my audio. How do I undo it? The 'Update History" file says: "Creative - Sound - Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM) Creative Sound sofware update released in August, 2006 " Is there a way to revert to the previous setting?

Computer Fails To Start After Update
by Guest craig- 8 replies

I performed an automated upodate to install security patches etc, and an NVidia network card update. After rebooting, windows failed to start and times out and shuts down after the black screen with the loading bar. The logo does not appear, just the bars. I was able to get a completely black screen with a cursor at one point, but that was it. My vista disc is at home (600 miles away) and i am out of state for the summer. Any help?

George Lazar's solution and development boxes
by Guest dan- 0 replies

Anybody know what George Lazar's solution to KB928366's problems will do to a development box? One with an IIS server and Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 installed. Seems to me that all this uninstalling and reinstalling will break a dev box. Did someone try this on a dev box? I'd like to hear the result.

I have XP Pro SP2. This problem has recently started happening. I am behind a proxy which is configured in IE 6. (Connections - LAN settings - Advanced). I have tried just about everything suggested in this group - proxycfg etc. - and nothing works. Net 2 reinstalled, patched successfully
by Guest RoseW- 0 replies

Since my v1.1 section of Net framework updated successfully I couldn't see why it was necessary to uninstall everything so I just uninstalled Net 2 with Add Remove The Windows update still listed the patch as necessary even though I had uninstalled so I double checked the Windows/Software distribution folder and deleted any reference to a net download. Changed the AU (autoupdate configuration) to be warn only. Downloaded the cleanup utility, installed and it did not display Net 2 Downloaded both the original Net 2 and the patch to save on hard drive Installed Net2 and patch- rebooted and all logs reported successful installation. Went to Windows Update …

Installing Updates- Vista OS
by Guest Vista Security Updates - KB935807- 1 reply
- 322 views
I have noticed that the most recent group of updates have multiple issues. After narrowing the group down one by one it appears that the Security Update KB935807 is the culprit. I did see a work around by one of your "teck's, but all this is doing is rediculous--soon there will be multiple files and folders that may have conflicts later on. Obviously you have NOT checked this one out before issuing it to your customers. This is the 3rd time that I have had to go and make numerous changes to make a particular update install / work. After viewing the 'Discusions' web page, I can see that many of your customers are having numerous issues with VISTA especially…

About .NET Framework not installing
by Guest MapleFr3ak- 6 replies
From a month or a few ago, I searched google trying to find out why this thing won't install. One link lead to a forum where it says you need some RAM space in order for it to install successfully. I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was something along the lines. I just wish there were a way to make it so that the update won't bug me again since I can't ever install it.

Tried the net framework solution, now update no longer works
by Guest Don Burnette- 2 replies

I tried the solution posted here, to get the 1.1 net framework update to work. It hung, on trying to install the NDPI ( I think ) file , something about patch not recognized. I tried uninstalling Net 2.0, would not uninstall. I downloaded and reinstalled 2.0, then went to the windows update site, and now that won't even work for me. It scans for updates, then gives an error message - -- Don [Error number: 0x80072EE2] The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. I have a Dell inspiron 8500 laptop with XP Pro O/S. When I tried to Install the Recovery Console (to use in case I can't boot by any other means) I got following message: "Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD" [which only had SP1] {Ref: Article 898594} I followed the directions in Article 900871 to "Integrate Windows XP Service Pack 2 files into the Windows XP installation folder" so I could load the Recovery Console. This was successful. But all my Updates vanished and now they won't reinstall. When I go to the Windows Update site, there are 79 updates that keep downloading bu…
