A few days before the July updates, I read that we would be getting 6 updates. When they were ready to install, there were only 2 on the list. Why would that be?

I am unable to download any updates let alone try to install them. There are no error messages. At first I was unable to even download the updating software but after turning off the Spybot Tea Timer I was at least able to get that done. This is on a XP Home machine. Kinda stumped here. Any ideas?

Hi! Does anyone know how to delete the OS Update files that Vista hides? In XP they could be deleted manually to save space. They must be taking even more space in Vista and after a while you certainly do not need them. Thanks!! Keith

After I installed the net framework update, I followed the update instructions and restarted my laptop. When Windows started backup, a service called netfxupdate.exe ran on startup and is now interfering with my sleep function. When I press the standby key, I recieve an error message saying that the update for 1.1 is interfering. I don't know how to approach this problem other than to remove the update.

.NET 1.1 framework installed o.k.
by Guest Fourdogs- 3 replies

Like many others, my computer froze while trying to install this update. When the yellow update shield appears in my taskbar, I close it and go to the windows update site and let it scan my computer to see which updates I need. I do it this way because I want to see what it wants to update before I tell it OK. When it got to the .NET 1.1 update it froze and would not install the remaining updates. I had to go out for several hours and when I returned and booted into Win XP the shield was there as before. This time, I used the shield and the previously failed .Net and other updates installed correctly. Did anyone else get the .NET Framework, Version 1.1 to …

.net 2.0 - failed update KB917283 after re-install
by Guest Ed Y- 1 reply

I was having the common problem of KB928365 failing to install. I follwed the "George" procedure and uninstalled .net 1.1 and 2.0. (didn't have 3.0) installed). This is a WinXP Home SP2 system. I then installed 1.0 and 1.1 service pack 1. Everything fine. I then installed the security patch, KB928366. Everything fine. I then re-ran Win Update and installed .net 2.0. Everything fine. Re-ran Win Update and had 3 high-priority updates for 2.0, ie, KB917283, KB922770 and KB928365. 922770 and 928365 installed fine. 917283 failed with a error code of 0x643. Windows update now shows no high-priority uddates. What do I do now about the failed one?? Ed Y

Installing old Windows Updates
by Guest Lennyo- 1 reply

Up to now, I have been installing only "Important" updates. I have decided that I want to install all "Recommended" and some "Optional" updates that I previously skipped. Can I check all of the skipped updates and will Windows install all of them? If so, will it install them in chronological sequence (oldest first, newest last) so that if there is an update to a specific component in multiple updates, I will end up with the most current update to that component? Thanks for your time.

All Windows Updates Fail to Install
by Guest Bryan Elwood- 5 replies

Any idea what factors would cause all available high-priority updates for my Windows 2000 machine to fail to install? Under Custom installation, as soon as I press the Install Updates button, the Installing Updates dialog appears and reports that some (meaning all) updates were not installed. I then proceed to Check Your Update History. After checking several failed updates, I see the following common message Error Code: 0x80246008. Thanks for any suggestions, Bryan

Do I need service packs if I am running Anti-virus and ZoneAlarm?
by Guest Nirgelep- 3 replies

Hi People, Hoping to get some feedback. I cannot install service packs on my machine (Win XP Home SP2). I have tried all the ideas found on the web to no avail. So my question is as above - is my computer safe with up-to-date AntiVirus and Zone Alarm firewall. And then I could research how to turn off the Windows warning (red shield) ------------ The problems so far: Just recently did a clean/fresh install of windows because it was acting like a dog (isnt that ironic - still cant get it to behave). Takes many days to do a new install with all the applications. And I'm tired. Due to some errors, I decided to do a repair of Windows XP (SP2 CD) -…

.NET Updates failed
by Guest bronorb- 6 replies

If you ask me, this Update mess is complete bull****!!! My computer did an automatic update Monday night when I shut it off. Because this .NET install failed (I think) it didn't finish the process and somehow my SYSTEM file got deleted. The next day I spent the whole day trouble-shooting the problem and recovering my system. I still have a few apps that are not working and will have to be reinstalled. All because of some stupid security update that I am sure I do not need! Now after reading some of these posts, I have to uninstall this and reinstall that and all this other crap and who knows how many other problems that will cause. This is no solu…

Windows Update 10 July 2007 and Outlook 2007/2003
by Guest James Presland- 2 replies

Running XP Pro SP2, Office Pro 2003, but Outlook 2007 (Outlook 2003 removed) After installing 10 July updates, Outlook 2007 would not start, with an error message that RHTML (?) was the wrong version, and to put in the installation CD for Office 2003. Having done so, Outlook 2007 would not open. I checked Add/Remove Programmes in control panel, and Outlook 2003 had been installed as well as Outlook 2007. Having worked out during the Office 2007 Beta that they cannot co-exist I removed Outlook 2003. I then repaired Outlook 2007. So it all works again, but it is a bit of a waste of time. Can you promise not to do this to me (and anyone else with O…

Why, after setting updates to "Automatic", does it require an admin to start the updates? XP just downloads the updates and sits around with it until an admin logs in the computer.
