by Guest snofox- 2 replies

My computer will not start as a result of installing SP2 on WP X64. The startup process gets to the log-in screen, but when I enter my password, the computer freezes and I can go no further. This problem began as soon as I installed the update for SP2, and it never did this before the update. Is there any help for this?

Force WU Install remotely via VBS
by Guest Kurt G- 6 replies

I have been working with a VBScript (UpdateHF.vbs) written by Rob Dunn to see if I can do a force install of updates on remote workstations in my environment. I have been successful for systems which have no users logged in, however when a non-admin user is logged in to the system, the installation fails. There are two parts of the WindowsUpdate log which seem significant to the success or failure of the update installation. Non Admin logged in / Failed Installation 2007-07-09 07:23:36:471 1088 b10 Agent ************* 2007-07-09 07:23:36:471 1088 b10 Agent ** START ** Agent: Installing updates [CallerId = ] 2007-07-09 07:23:36:471 1…

Hi there, I'm having problems installing SP2 also. I've tried several things from this board, but my current error message is this one (0x87FF36B0) so that's why I'm on this thread. I've tried "Restore" and that didn't work. I've tried changing permissions in the register. That seemed to get rid of some errors, but another would appear. I'm not sure what log to look at to figure out what's going on. (I'm not that savy on computers.) I'm not sure I'd know what the log was telling me, anyway. My svcpak.log has errors in it. I don't know which one's are critical. The first one that appears, in the 3rd line, is: 4.781: Failed To Enable SE_SHUTDOWN_…

SP2 Failure to install
by Guest Aussie- 9 replies

My PC was cmpltely up to date UNTIL it crashed. I reloaded the machine from the CD, which of course was SP1. I immediately began to download updates. I believe it was over 120 to get to the point of downloading SP2. SP2 downloaded but failed to install (I do not recall the error message). When I check my download history, it says that it failed. When I check the version I am running, it even says I am running SP2. When I go in and check in Add/Remove Programs, there is SP2 but with 0 bytes. I cannot for the life of me get SP2 to reinstall. I considered uninstalling what I have and then reinstall it but was afraid I would be in worse shape. Any …

Audio Device Error After Windows Update
by Guest Franco- 4 replies
I bought a Gateway with a Centrino Duo on the 7th, I decide to do the Windows Vista update, and suddenly my audio device doesn't work. I went through, being mostly computer literate, and checked the Device Manager, which says the Audio Device is working, but when I try to play music, it says that there is no Output Device installed. Under the Device Manager, I'm at Sound, video, and game controllers. It says that this "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC" is working, but it clearly isn't. I was listening to music before the update, and now it doesn't work... I've tried updating the Driver, but it says the one I have is up-to-date. I read some other Discus…

I just downloaded the "Dial-a Fix" software v0.60.0.24 located at http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix I installed it on two different machines and it fixed them both and allowed the updates to complete. Download the .exe file. Click on it and just check the following boxes: 1. MSI: Check the Fix Windows Installer. This will also check the 4 boxes below. 2. WU/WUAU: Check Fix Windows Update. This will also check the 3 boxes below it and all the SSL/HTTPS/Cryptography boxes. 3.Registeration center: Check all boxes the click 'Go" It takes about 3 minutes to complete.
