Hi all, I'm trying to find a way of programmatically invoking the "install updates and shutdown" functionality using .Net 1.1 or perhaps WMI or other scripting. I can reboot a machine fine but if the install updates and shutdown option is available I need to perform that task. Any suggestions or ideas would be gratefully received Thanks Jeff

just one solution to update
by Guest Bob B- 0 replies

This was the solution for my problems to update and instal critical updates especially if your updates refer to office 2003 The problem!! For Windows XP SP2 System but might also apply to Vista My friend tells me that his computer is running really slow and everytime he shuts down it first tries to install windows updates. I ran a few anti malware programs and AVG including the root-kit but the computer came out clean About a month ago I had set his computer to download and install the Microsoft Window updates automatically. The reason it tries to install the updates each time he shuts down is that they have failed to install on the previous attempt.…

Windows Upate Fails on Windows Server 2003
by Guest Mike Schumann- 0 replies

When I try to run Microsoft Update on my Windows Server 2003 system, I get a "Checking for Lastest Version of Windows Updating Software......" page. IE gives me a warning that the site might require the "Windows Update" Active X control. I click on the warning to permit installation of the active X control. That just brings me right back to the same "Checking for Latest Version....." page, asking me to OK the active X control again. HELP!!!! -- Mike Schumann

Can anyone help?

I'm running Vista Ultimate. I can't get windows update to work! I also can't get windows defender to work either. All that happens is they both supposedly start checking for updates and the bar just scrolls and scrolls never reaching any updates to download. I normally would finish in about a few minutes. I restored my machine back to before the last update that successfuly installed (6/20/07) and I still have the problem. Can anyone suggest what I should do to fix this problem as I don't want to miss any critical updates? I was going to reinstall Vista Ultimate as a last resort, but when I even did that, and it asked if I wanted to search for u…

Why do updates not install?
by Guest Mervyn Sher- 7 replies
I'm one of the unhappy lot that have recently found that no matter what we try the updates which we download (automatically or otherwise) are not installing onto the PC. I've read all the comments in the forum relevant to this issue, and although there seems to be some people out there that appear to have positive results in fixing the issue, I am still unable to do so. Therefore, could someone please explain to me ( preferably in simple terms ) why all of a sudden this issue has manifested itself ? Many thanks in anticipation.

No Sound
by Guest Sound Problems- 4 replies

I recently resolved some sound choppiness with Windows Media Player 11 for the Vista Basic operating system. However, within several days of its resolution, my computer ceased to play sound altogether (with the exception of "angry" beeps when I am doing something it doesn't like). My sound card was previously in use, and now no longer issues sound. On the Start Task bar on the bottom right of the screen, there appears a little speaker icon with a little white "X" surrounded in red, and when scrolled over indicates that "The Audio Service is not running." I am unsure as to how to resolve this. When this previously happened when I re-emerged from hibernation…

My laptop runs Vista Home Premium, I installed a windows update yesterday and now my DVD drive no longer works. I checked my device manager and the DVD drive is no longer there. I tried to restore my computer and it crashed. I was unable to restart correctly until I set it to restore to an even earlier restore point. Even then it still didn't solve the problem with my DVD drive.
