I had not used my laptop in almost 6 weeks and I noticed there were no updates coming in. I started snooping to see if the service was running. It doesn't exist on the list of services..... It was updating ok in later January of 2013. So I then went to the software distribution folder under windows and it did have several updates hung up in there. I deleted them and re-booted just to see if it would help. No luck..... Can I copy that folder from my other windows 7 PC and dump it onto my laptop? Or is there and even more simple fix? Thanks very much for anyone out there that can give me some insight. Burke Masterson View this thread

Hi All,I had to reinstall Windows XP Pro and then all the Windows Updates. After doing a reboot, I saw my WiFi icon in the system tray has changed. It use to be the default icon, 2 computers with transmission lights back and forth, just like the wired network connection icon. When you hover over it I would see a popup with the Network name, connection speed, etc..After doing some updates and then rebooting the computer my WiFi icon is now a radio tower (looks like a chess pawn with radio waves on both sides). When I hover over it I get nothing. When I double click on it I get nothing. I have to right click and select 'View Wireless Connections' to see the networks.Ho…

I have a dell xps 8500 that passed the upgrade assistant. So I decided a 2 weeks ago to upgrade windows 7 to 8. Everything ran great until this past wednesday when i restarted my computer for windows update. It restarted twice giving the error code 0xc000021a. Then it tries to automatically repair. That fails and then I'm on a screen that says troubleshoot or shutdown pc. Under troubleshoot I click refresh pc and am told my hard drive is locked. Resetting does not work either, a required drive or partition is missing. So I click on advanced options and try restoring, this says I need to specify which operating system I am restoring. I didnt keep windows 7 so i dont kno…

Problem started from eternal attempt to upgrade KB2538242 and KB256506. One day they was blocked from attempt to fix until I found them hidden in important updates again.First one was solved by downloading some Vcredist.msi 2005 (required for uninstall) and reinstalling with proper from Microsoft site. However I can't nor uninstall nor update vc 2010 redist: I have no idea by what it was installed, I clearing trash in temp folder sometime, and of course I deleted folders like "j:e66a8f5043542b20d5ca6ddc935d73".During install vcredist was asking for path to vc_red.msi to probably remove previous version. Was trying to find vc_red.msi for any version 2008-2010 but there is …

After the last major update pushed out by Microsoft I have noticed that both Internet Explorer and Windows email client (Windows Live Mail) are not working properly. They do not open up windows on the desktop, however they do show up in Task Managers processes. I have tried reinstalling them but that hasn't fixed the problem.Has anyone else experience similar problems?Running: Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) View this thread

IE Version: 9.0.8112.16421 Windows: Vista 32-bit SP2 Initially recieved the KB2799494 update 2/14/13, It has been repeating ever since. I had AVG Antivirus (removed), Firefox (Removed), McAfee preload (removed), Pc antivirus preload (removed). I have been searching threads and had tried installing from both .msu and *.exe manually, in safe mode as well. Tried 2 different Hot Fixes, Tried the 'FixIT' both general and subsequently Aggressive. What I get is about 5 minutes and then it pops back up. It never lists as an intalled update but then it never fails to install as per Windows Update. Fixit always finds and fixes a problem but its back again. Is there any ot…
