Block users from adding Windows Defender Exclusions via GPO?
by Guest tickermcse76- 0 replies
I do not have SCCM in the environment, but I see an option in the SCCM documentation, a configuration option for Endpoint Protection Policy - Advanced to "Allow users to exclude files and folders, file types, and processes" with values yes or no. In GPO, I do not see the equivalent setting available. I can of course add my list of paths, extensions, and executable files which do get pushed with my GPO. In testing what I have found is on clients under this GPO, my exclusions list will get implemented, but the menu options to add exclusions of any type are wide open to the users. I feel this is a significant security risk as a bad actor would have the ability to imp…

Hi, If you open the log WindowsUpdate.log you can read this. Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows). Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log. If I run Get-WindowsUpdateLog I got an log that dont say me so much: WindowsUpdate 1601-01-01 01:00:00.0000000 1340 2312 Unknown( 10): GUID=fbf46613-33f0-3872-c248-268156b5ca06 (No Format Information found). 1601-01-01 01:00:00.0000000 1340 2312 Unknown( 10): GUID=d1317ae8-ec05-3e09-4a50-d3b2ce02f784 (No Format Information found). 1601-01-01 01:00:00.0000000 1340 2312 …

Converting a physical server 2016 to a VM (Hyper V) on itself
by Guest Tiger_Rich- 0 replies

I have a physical Server 2016 box currently running SQL and acting as our application server. I have the resources to run a few VM's but did not want to have Hyper-V running on the SQL host. Instead I was thinking of converting the SQL Server to virtual and creating a Hyper V on itself and then removing all SQL data from the host. Currently the only way I know how would be to run the P2V utility, import the VM into Hyper V, then start removing SQL Data/roles from the host. Is their an easier way to convert the SQL server to a VM on itself or would this be the only way? Continue reading...

Hello, I am new to operating on server management services. We utilize the windows server 2016 standard and I am trying to establish a couple reporting tools I am assuming are available with in the server management tools. How do I... 1. Create an audit tool to track all network login attempts for our staff? 2. Is there a feature in the GP management environment that reports on security patches that have been pushed to devices, is there a report that can produce which patches were applied to which device on the network? Thank you any input you may have. Continue reading...

Autologon not working on Windows Server 2016
by Guest J Moen- 0 replies

I have a specific situation where I need to have autologon run on a Windows Server 2016 machine so that it will logon whenever it is restarted. An older version of AutoLogon starts on a Windows Server 2016 and appears to configure the login but on restart it does not login. I tried downloading and running V3.1 of AutoLogon but AutoLogon doesn't even start when I try to run it. Are there security settings that need to be disabled in order for AutoLogon to run and also to logon the server on restart? Getting this error in Event Viewer at the time that I try to run AutoLogon. Licensing and CALs for Virtual Machines
by Guest Pi Town- 0 replies

Hi, I'm buying 2 new servers. On each server I will have installed ESXi with 3 Windows Server 2016 Standard installations, for a total of 6 WS2016 installations between the two servers. 1- I am confused with licenses used on virtual machines when installed on 2 physical servers. I understand that one license can be used on two virtual machines, but can the virtual machines be on different servers? For example, with my 1st physical server, can I use 1 license for the first two vm's, then use a second license for the third vm and the first vm on the 2nd physical server? Then I will use a third license for the second and third vm's on the second server. 2- Also, re…

Literal control started appearing as null after Tue 14 Jan
by Guest Simon Kravis- 0 replies

I run an aspx /C# Web application developed in Visual Studio on a hosted VPS running Server 2016 ( Caption Pro Web - Add Captions to your photos Caption Pro Web) which has started failing after 14 Jan 20120 when a literal control in the aspx file always appeared as null. This problem does not appear in a Win 10 environment using IISExpress. The problem of literal controls always being null appeared many years ago ( see https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6515121/null-reference-literal-control) but seems to have reappeared.Hosting support thought the problem might have arisen from a patch. However, the update history for the O/S (running as a Windows emulator) does no…

Cumulative Update Install and Uninstall
by Guest SAMnetJDM- 0 replies

Does uninstalling a cumulative update trigger an install or rollback to the previous cumulative update installed? Or to the previous cumulative update available via the servers applied update method? I have a 2016 server that required the removal of KB4534271 and when the process completed KB4530689 was listed with the current day as the install date. I am not sure if KB4530689 was listed prior to the newer updates removal. Both updates had to be removed due to client connections using ODBC DSN to an Actian PSQL 12 Database timing out in a SAGE 300 module. Thank You. Continue reading...
