Server 2016 WSUS settings question
by Guest jerm20201- 0 replies
So I've got a WSUS server set up on my 2016 server and it deal with 99% 2016 clients. I've run into the issue that my servers are automatically installing updates instead of only installing approved updates. Below are my current registry settings. I also work in tandem with another Windows Engineer and we've been trying to get WSUS working using the GPO. So when he makes changes in the WSUS GPO settings it overrides the registry settings. Am I missing something as to why my servers are auto updating? In my other environment I have 2008/2012 servers with practically identical registry settings and they have no issues automatically updating unless the patches are appro…

Upgrading from 2012 R2 to 2016
by Guest DayTripperMike- 0 replies

I'm trying to create a setup command batch file to upgrade 2012 R2 OS to 2016 so the admins don't need to choose the options of an upgrade including the ability to ensure the Desktop Experience is installed, not server core. Upgrade Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2016 I've tried 'setup /auto upgrade /quiet' but it doesn't seem to run and doesn't even produce an error Would also like to run a setup to evaluate whether there's enough free space to run an upgrade. is there a scanonly option? This seems to indicate there is a scanonly option although it didn't work either Windows Setup Command-Line Options Continue reading...

Can't use start menu search for certain users
by Guest jmv5010- 0 replies

Hi, I'm experiencing an issue where some users on a Windows 2016 server can use the start menu search function, while for others it just spins in the search and eventually comes back with no results. It's a terminal server that multiple users can log into and the only fix so far is a profile reset, but I'd like to avoid that if possible. Has anyone come across this before? Thanks! Hi, We are using Personal Session Desktops (PSD) on Windows Server 2016 Datacenter (ver 10.0.14393 build 14393). On few PSDs, when the user clicks on the Start Menu then type \\servername, they get the error message "Netwrok Error: Windows cannot access \\servername". However, if the same is done from File Explorer or from the Run command, it works fine. Note that others PSD (majority of them) doesn't have this issue. Screenshots below: START MENU FILE EXPLORER Continue reading...

Hello, I am looking to see if there is a policy to disable the Windows Update Dialog box on Server 2016 that requires you to click Get Updates to dismiss. Very annoying to have to click Get Updates to open the settings page and close. Scoured the web a bit and looked at existing policies but didn't see anything for this particular option. Thank you. CVE-2020-0601 - Is this patch applicable for Windows Server Datacenter?
by Guest VivianJohn- 0 replies
Hi There, Just a quick question regarding the vulnerability - CVE-2020-0601, As Microsoft marked the update KB4534271 as important since NSA agency has found some critical issues with the Operating System Windows 10, Server 2016 and Server 2019. I went and installed the patch on most of our server, however, when I am trying to install it on the Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition it is telling me that the perticular update(which I am manually trying to install) is not applicable for this edition. Can anyone confirm if the patch KB4534271 is to be installed only on the Windows Server 2016 standard edition and not on the Server 2016 Datacenter edition? If not, Is ther…

Using Certificate Enrollment Policy on WS2016 with F5 Secure Tunnel Fails Access Denied
by Guest begegeek- 0 replies
Hi all; I very much need assitance with configuring CEP with an F5 Secure Tunnel. The problem is the tunnel can use any one of 5 IP addresses. I have the bindings set with an SSL certificate that lists the VIP hostname as well as the actual hostname. In IIS under CEP application settings, I have configured the URI with the VIP hostname as well. This solution works fine when directly connecting, but through the secure F5 tunnel it fails consistently with "Access was denied by the remote endpoint. 0x803d0005" Our F5 team suggested using XFF (X-Forward-For) when they tried enabling it on their side. The only place I can find to do this is for IIS logging. The only af…

Does a Windows Server 2016 PE exist?
by Guest Pikass0- 0 replies
At work i've been given the task to look for a Windows Server 2016 PE, but i've found literally nothing that could help me. My knowledge of PEs is not the greatest, but i know the basics (what it is, what it does, how you boot it etc.) From what i know, there're ones for win10 and downwards, but i couldn't find any for WinServer2016. I need one because of the server drivers. So my questions are: if there are actually a few options of PE's made for WinServer2016 and i just overlooked them, or if i don't get the whole PE thing at all. thanks in advance Continue reading...

Having an issue with certificate autoenrollment. I have the following test environment, windows 2016 standard Domain Controller running Certificate Authority and a windows 2016 member server I am testing to get the computer certificate. I copied the computer template and set the appropriate permissions for domain computers (read, enroll, auto-enroll), set the GPO at the domain level to autoenroll the computer certificate etc (just a note that this is working perfectly in another 2016 test environment). On the member server, I ran the rsop.msc to ensure that the computer has received the policy etc. I can certutil ping the CA on the domain controller from the mem…

Team, we want to create Microsoft patches package for following OS. we are not using WSUS for patching the OS. we need this package because when we prepared any new system with windows 10,7 or 8 all patches download from the internet and utilized internet bandwidth. in that case i want to know weather we can create one by one OS package and deployed. then only incremental patches only applied on that system.
