OEM Branded Server Standard 2016 fails activation after Motherboard Replacement
by Guest andrewgroup- 0 replies

We just had a Lenovo Motherboard replaced in an enterprise RD650 series server and immediately following the replacement the previously activated license key would not re-activate. Attempts to use the Microsoft Activation tools, smart-phone and voice activated both fail to re-activate this license. We have an open case with Lenovo, and they say the reason is due to the Microsoft OEM branded version of server 2016 is bound to the BIOS activated. I'm working with lenovo tier 2 support, and they are searching for answers. We support a number of clients with Lenovo Hardware and Lenovo branded operating systems known as "reseller option kits." and this…

I’m trying to learn DISM and its Powershell equivalent. And learn features can be added via Server Manager, DISM & Powershell. From : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/dism-capabilities-package-servicing-command-line-options “Capabilities are a Windows package type allows you to request services like .NET or languages without specifying the version. Use DISM to search multiple sources like Windows Update or your corporate servers to find and install the latest version. To see the available capabilities, go to Features On Demand. “ Which link to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/featur…

by Guest Darren_Reed_in_ZA- 0 replies

Good day One of my DCs has this error in event viewer, for three separate KEY ID type identifiers. I can't find any duplicates after using setspn, ldifde output to logs, etc. I need assistance in order to what to use to find the duplicate, commands, and what to do with it and how to do it. The error body is the same for all three, just the ID changes: "The KDC encountered duplicate names while processing a Kerberos authentication request. The duplicate name is 2CD18B5864BB31AE9B6EFD24DE603B7CB06EB0BEFDB066C8C7A2F7C705FC37BA (of type KEY ID). This may result in authentication failures or downgrades to NTLM. In order to prevent this from occurring remove the…

"The boot Configuration Data for my PC is missing or contains errors" VMware and Windows Server 2016
by Guest NetHunter321- 0 replies

Hello, I recently downloaded a copy of Windows Server 2016 From TechNet. I've had Server 2016 on VMware many times but just reinstalled Windows and need to install it again. My problem is, after setting up all the info in VMware, and using the ISO in the CD Drive, I fire up the VM. I get to a screen saying click anything to boot from CD or DVD (which usually isn't there) and I click any key. Then it takes me to Windows Boot Manager and says "The boot Configuration Data for my PC is missing or contains errors." It asks me to Repair my computer (see first picture.) I tried hitting F12 while starting the VM and it takes me to Boot Manager (see 2nd picture). But all the optio…

DNS issue but this one has me stumped.
by Guest awreaper- 0 replies
I run an internal 2016 DNS server. I have approximately 150 WIndows 10 client machines. There is a website that I can't reach if I use my internal DNS server as my client's only DNS server. They can ping it and it resolves to the correct IP address but they get a site can't be reached page. If I change my clients DNS server to 4.2.2.2 and do an ipconfig /flushdns then they can access the page. Pinging it using 4.2.2.2 yields the same results as pinging it with my internal DNS server. It resolves to the same address and is pingable. I have tried this with multiple browsers and get the same results. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Continue …

Windows 2016 core can't get proxy to work
by Guest C. Baum- 0 replies
Hey folks, First crack at Windows 2016 Standard (core) and I'm trying to setup networking. Long story short, the network subnet I am on has no access to the internet, so I have a proxy that I use to get out. I believe I set it up properly but I can't get out at all. I didn't set it to bypass proxy for local hosts, but I CAN ping and get to local hosts so it's obvious the proxy configuration isn't working or somehow isn't getting applied. How can I troubleshoot? If I do a "netsh winhttp show proxy" at the command line it looks great: Current WinHTTP Proxy Settings: Proxy Server(s) : IP_of_my_proxy:port Bypass List : (None) I can ping the pr…

by Guest spug1- 0 replies

Hi All. Brand new install of Server 2016 onto existing domain, specifically to host WSUS & Trend WFBS. All set up fine and both the aforementioned services worked fine and clients connected/reported for a couple of weeks. Over the Christmas period I also installed Remote Access (VPN RAS) & Remote Desktop Services (Remote Desktop) Roles. Now, no clients are connecting/reporting to WSUS or Trend Console. IIS seems fine: - all services up and running - firewall ports are open (have tested completely disabling firewall) - have also disabled local A/V - no IIS errors (apart from Waring 9009, can't delete history) - server is connected to domain …

Make bootable USB image that can be used by UEFI
by Guest Susan_773- 0 replies

I'm currently using an ISO that was used to create a bootable USB using the Win 7 USB/ISO tool. When I have a system with full UEFI setup and CSM turned off, the system doesn't see the drive to boot to it. When I just turn CSM back on, I can boot to the drive and see the disks but Windows tells me it cannot install on them. With my current setup, when I go full Legacy, Windows doesn't see the disks at all and none of the manufacturer's drivers seem to work. How do I make my bootable USB more compatible with UEFI systems so it can boot with full UEFI setup and actually install on the disks? Current MB is a Gigabyte c246m Wu4 Continue reading...
