Domain Controllers Security Logs Archival and Collection
by Guest Shahid Roofi- 0 replies
We want to centralize all security logs from all 8 DCs. These logs grow rapidly so need to change the location to D or E drive and then set Auto Archive settings. (otherwise C Drive will be filled up in hours) Next challenge is to collect all of these and compress them and put them in one machine. Option1: use scripts that copy all the archive files created on DCs and paste them on file share and deleting the originals. Option2: use event collection/subscription feature. The failure of any of the approach will cause the D drive on the DC to get filled up easily and then DC will be in abnormal state. What is the common solution around this? (apart from …

Perform health check of VPN client connecting to network
by Guest Joshua Thompson- 0 replies
I am looking for a solution that will perform a "health check" on incoming VPN client connections. I want this solution to check the clients computer for 1) AV being installed, 2) AV updated, 3) Up to date with Windows Updates. If the client passes the health check they are allowed onto the the VPN. Currently, clients connect via VPN. That request then gets sent to a RADIUS server (Network Policy Server) that checks to see if its a member of my vpn users group. If so then it passes the password to our Domain Controller for authentication. This works great for access but now I want to run a check on these incoming VPN connections and make sure AV is instal…

ReFS on server 2016 using large amounts of disk space.
by Guest SDawg30- 0 replies

Trying to find an explanation of high disk usage that possibly were created because we are using ReFS, and a way to clean them up if possible. Have a drive on Windows Server 2016 and it is formatted with ReFS and using 64K blocks. The amount of disk for the files is about 5TB when looking at size on disk, but the properties of the drive show 7.5TB. Under settings>storage when I click on the drive it shows 2.5TB of system files. There is nothing installed on this drive, it is just for storing files, there are about 33,000,000 small files on it. I have done the following: Show hidden files Show protected files Gave myself permissions to all files Ensu…

Powershell files and folders, and modified date
by Guest Keith_7- 0 replies

I am still a newbie at PowerShell. My end result at this time is to find permissions on files and folders, and modified date into a csv file for all of them on a windows 2016 server. I found the PowerShell below that gives me the permissions but no modified date. Is there a way to insert a added command to do that? $FolderPath = dir -Directory -Path "C:\data" -Recurse -Force $Report = @() Foreach ($Folder in $FolderPath) { $Acl = Get-Acl -Path $Folder.FullName foreach ($Access in $acl.Access) { $Properties = [ordered]@{'FolderName'=$Folder.FullName;'AD Group or User'=$Access.IdentityReference;'Permissions'=$Access.FileSystemRights…

Hello I have an existing Storage Replica Partnership with a SR Group which is replicating a volume in a clustered file server role. and I have a second volume which requires replication. Per MS documentation you should be able to add a volume to the SR Group using this command: Set-SRGroup -Name "ReplicationGroup01" -AddVolumeName "F:" docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/storagereplica/set-srgroup?view=win10-ps in my case, it does not work: > Set-SRGroup -Name "CBV01" -AddVolumeName "E:" Set-SRGroup : This operation is not allowed for replication group CBV01, remove replication group from partnership. We have folder redirection, GPOs, batch scripts with our current setup with roaming profiles. I know you can change the setting on the local machine (system profiles)from roaming to local. However after having a lot of issues with roaming we want to start with a clean slate create a new profile.(creating the profile on the local machine not by the domain but that its still managed on the domain just not roaming) How is this done in a new setup directly with a domain and local profiles? Can the profile be created on the local user machine first (how does it work then in the domain)and keep as local but still have the password gpo managed by the domain(or does t…

I have 2 Exchange Server 2016 CU12 servers in DAG along with Exchange 2010 Servers. I normally keep these options "UNCHECKED". Under "Settings - Update & Security - Windows Update - Advanced options - # Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows # Defer feature updates This time i created registry key to block automatic installation of .Net Framework 4.8 and started with Windows Updates. On first server it went fine. It did not download .Net Framework and any patches for Exchange server 2016 CU12. On the second box I did follow the same steps, but it additionally downloaded "Security Update for Exchange Server 2016 CU12 KB451583…

Hello Folks, I have Web server running on Windows server 2016 (IIS10). Multiple websites are hosted on it but currently single website is working from that server. Now i am trying to host new website but it is not working. After some basic troubleshooting, i came to know that default IIS page is also not working when i am entering server IP/Hostname. We have single IP assigned and using host headers method for multiple site. By using netstat, we concluded that server is responding to port 80, no issue we that. IIS reset is done multiple time but no luck. Please let me know how to troubleshoot further. I cant restart server as one Website is working. T…

This works fine with local Outlook on the same network as the SharePoint server. SharePoint lists, etc. are added to Outlook. How do I make the lists in Outlook/OWA available offsite? Thanks Continue reading...

Setting Up VLANS within a barebones Microsoft Windows Server 2016
by Guest 90Ninety- 0 replies

I have been 'playing' with VLANS within a physical lab environment for some time ( several cisco switches , routers and computers) . I am able to set up trunks between switches and routers , this I understand . However I want some clarification on how to configure Microsoft server with multiple DHCP scopes . My understanding is: When deploying Microsoft server with multiple DHCP scopes over different networks ,the server will need multiple VLAN Interfaces , these can be physical or logical . When there is several physical NIC interfaces , each of the LAN ports connected should be connected to the switch , one for each subnet/Vlan . Logical virtual NICs Can a…

It's my first time to buy DVD windows server 2016 to install OS. I brought a server std 2016 64bit 1pk DSP OEI DVD 2CPU DVD with a license key. At first I tried installed the esxi and then install Windows sever 2016 std as a vm, and input the license key and then got activation. On the same machine, I found the server pre-installed with the wrong raid in raid 5, which should be raid 10, I try to unactivated the server license key with the the command like slmgr from google without thinking too much. Then redo the raid and decided to intall this DVD server 2016 straight forward as vm manager. Then I find that I can't use this license activate the server now...Do I h…

Internet packet loose periodically
by Guest S3bast1- 0 replies

Hi, Since a few days, I got some packet loosing periodicaly on a 2016 Server (virtualized), the packet loose is only while it’s trying to access on Internet and this is so incredible, the description : To avoid DNS aspect, I ping to the google DNS (8.8.8.8) is the test I do : it works periodically for a very few packets, then the ping fails, then he works again…. But most of time, the ping fails. To check if it was a wire problem I tried to ping some LAN adresses : works at 100 percent anytime from the 2016 Server. Also tried a ping to the google DNS on another hosted Windows server 2012 (same physical machine and network than the 2016) : works at 100 percent a…

I need to configure FTP on our web server to allow for some web site work. I have installed FTP on my 2016 Server however, I cannot get it to work (even on the local LAN) without disabling the firewall on the server. I have created an inbound firewall rule for port 21 and I can make the initial connection (command channel I guess) but cannot fully connect and see the folder structure without disabling the firewall. I do not know what other ports to exempt and I do not want to turn off the firewall altogether. What are my options? thanks Continue reading...

Keep domain controller naming during DC migration from 2008 to 2016
by Guest DanthePro- 0 replies
Hello Everyone, I have a windows 2008 domain controller migration to Windows 2016 domain to perform. For example i have DC1,DC2 & DC3 that are windows 2008 DC but would like to migrate them to Win2016 but without changing the name of the servers. How would you go about it? The reason i need to stick with the name is because of application that gives reference to those server for LDAPS authentication. My dev team wont me to keep the name to those server. what I have in mind: Option 1: Bring 3 new servers with win2016. Promote them to domain controllers and demote DC1, Dc2 and Dc3. When all is done, create DNS entries (alias) with the old name that…

I think this is not related to Excel and that's why I post it here. If wrong, please, except my apologies and put it in the right place. We have an user in a citrix environment that has excel in his quick menu toolbar. He sees the recent opened documents. But when he pins (lock) them to be seen all the time, he gets the message that the document has been deleted, moved or no permissions. We see that the document is there in the right place and when we click on the document it opens: so it is not removed, permissions ok. What could cause this? I have to say that other users on the same citrix server has never had this problem. Any idea what could cause this …
