I am an Admin for windows server 2019 and users are needing to be able to remote into work desktops from home using work laptops. I do not know what is currently preventing this, but the settings are managed by my organization, and I cannot figure out how to change this. Are there any suggestions as to where it would be turned off or locked from the admin side of things? Continue reading...

Apps open on terminal server during snapshot
by Guest Joseph_N_- 0 replies

We have a Windows Server 2019 that runs multiple apps, including OneNote and Teams. The server is an instance on AWS, and we snapshot it nightly. Unlike, say, Excel, in which a file can be closed, both OneNote and Teams maintain a constant connection to the relevant data in MS's back end, such as ON open sections and Teams open chats/activity. What are the possible corruption issues or other disadvantages to keeping those apps open during the nightly snapshot, as opposed to our current practice of closing them? I'm interested from the perspective of the MS data, not the integrity of the snapsh Continue reading...

Visual C++ 2010 & 2015, vulnerabilities, under MS support?
by Guest bobipnet- 0 replies

I've inherited an application which installs on new servers (2019 and 2022) some seemingly very old MS products. The install package by the application developer is not old, they assembled/packaged it in Sept 2023 (I believe). These items have been brought to my attention and now I have to account for it.These MS items showed up when the venders app was installed, it is the only app installed besides an endpoint protection product which I have no reason to believe it installs these as these only exist where this one application is installed. One 6/5, the app received a minor update. Are t Continue reading...

Hi, I copied several virtual machines from production to the Hyper-V test environment. I created a Private virtual switch for them. These machines also include a domain controller. Unfortunately, Windows 2008R2 machines get a public network profile and Windows 2012R2 machines get a private one (including the domain controller). I cannot change these profiles. I've already tried different methods.The screenshot above shows an attempt to change the profile on a domain controller.Shouldn't at least the DC have a domain network profile? Continue reading...
