Windows 98SE Updates

L

Lorenzoi

Plannig to install Win98SE in my PC, actually with standard Win98, in my
effort to be able to use the new jump (pen) drvies.

Where can I find updates for Win 98SE after installation since Microsoft
ceased support of Win 98/98SE?

Your main probem will be to find USB drivers for newer
jump drives. If you search this newsgroup for the topic
you may find general-purpose USB drivers that willl
meet your needs but there are no guarantees. Very
few USB memory devices were originally marketed with
drivers for Win98, probably none since new since2003.

You will first have to install IE6 SP1 manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6

NB: Disable your anti-virus application BEFORE installing IE6 SP1 reboot
twice afterwards.

Then simply go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and...

there are lots of new updates made after microsoft stop doing anything,
go to the win98 forum at msfn.org (latest win98se hotfixes seems to be
from april 2008) and the "Windows 9x Member Projects" subforum there
(where USB driver, skins, kernelEx, servicepacks and that sort of
things are http://www.msfn.org/board/Windows-9x-Member-Project-f91.html )

mdgx website have lots of info and updatefiles, a good start can perhaps
be http://www.mdgx.com/spx/

Thanks, Don, but some of the modern jump drives provides for download of
driver from manufacturer's web sites. However, they require W-98SE will not
work with W98.
