Hi, I got an error message when trying to do a windows update. It directed
me to an article (# 319585) which ultimately directed me to delete the files
named: iuctl.dll and iuengine.dll Then it said to go to the Windows
Update web page to install new copies of ActiveX Controls. I tried to do
this but couldn't find how or where to get this download for Windows 98. Any
advice?

Did you delete ALL the copies, as the article said...

click Show hidden files and folders.
3. Click to clear the Hide protected operating system
files (Recommended) check box.

Remove the Windows Update ActiveX Controls

1. Click Start, click Find, and then click For Files or Folders.
Search for the files named iuctl.dll and Iuengine.dll.
2. Delete all copies of these files.
3. Visit the Windows Update Web site to install new copies
of the ActiveX controls.

Windows Update should automatically notice they are gone & commence to
reinstall them, as I recall it. Do the rest of what the article said.
Also, maybe...

(a) Open Explorer to "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files".
(b) R-Clk "Update Class", & select "remove".
(c) There was an older one there that also pertained to
Windows Update. If you can identify it (forgot its name),
remove it too.

Go to the site, & see whether these things will come back in!

UPDATE: The older one was call "CV3 Class". Remove it for being
obsolete!
