I have tried to post three times now and nada. This is just a test. The

Ok, this is what I have been trying to send, we'll see if it comes through
as an answer!!!

Hey All,
Some of you may be aware of this site, since I find it interesting
and sometimes helpful, I thought I would pass it along for the benefit of
those that have never seen it. I have found it to be quite reliable,
however, some of the "freeware" is no longer free. If you do enough
searching you can still find the old versions that are free. Hope this is
helpful to someone...........

Heirloom, old and sent it yesterday, but, it
never made it to post...hmmmmm.

Thanks, senile old cretin. That list looks interesting. I'll check it out.
I usually start my freeware search on http://www.tucows.com/software.html.

Good looking site Heirloom the home page has a link to Nos. 47-103!! I still
lurk here even though I was forced to Vista when my ME box went belly up.

I've looked at a couple of random apps and their download sites, but
couldn't see any Vista compatibility comments.

Any ideas/experience re these apps & Vista?

Plenty of traffic, trolls, Linux fans, vista fans and flame wars on
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general &
microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail, not like the gentlemanly posts here.
(until Shane got out of his pram ))

Interesting that some folk just can't get vista to behave & some have
trouble with Windows Mail. Also interesting that the first advice given by
vista MVPs to folk with problems with WinMail is to turn off their email
virus scanner and then to d/l windows live mail Beta.

I also note that Norton and MacAfee still b****r everything up in vista as
well.

Even though I have had little trouble with vista after pcworld exchanged my
first which suffered BSODs on shutdown and then immediately re booted so I
had to pull the mains plug, I certainly don't feel WOW! with vista , more
like HO-HUMMM and curse the "ask me once, ask me twice ... Do you really
want to do this?" so called security in vista. But I've just got used to it
and put up with it.

Anyway being ME guys here, I guess you aren't all that interested in my
opinions of vista.

TTFN and I'll continue lurking.

Yeah, I have been to Tucows, along with most of the other d'ld sites at one
time or another. I just happened to be looking through my favorites and saw
this one again after a long hiatus. The guy that puts it out does a pretty
good job of screening the feature sets and doesn't mind giving something a
negative if it is deserving of such.

Hey Dan! Good to read your face, it's been a while!

Delboy, yeah, I know there are others besides the 46, those are just his
favorites. There are some that have "Vista compatibility"
designated....sometimes you have to go to the home site to see it. No
experience, to speak of, with Vista....
yet. I have ordered a laptop for the wife with the Home Premium....she
thinks it is going to be a 'piece of cake' and she won't have any problem
with it.......we shall see. One nice thing, it will get her off of my XP
box!! (I had to partition one of my HD's off just for her (*&$%#&! music.
And, she has her own mailbox that is full of crap from years ago! There
will be some serious house cleaning when her's gets here!!! I'm thinking
Vista may be a lot like Me was when it first came out.....it liked to be
treated 'special' and kept clean. Overall, I had very little problem with
Me and the vast majority (if not all) was a result of some ill written
app.....i.e. McAfee and Norton.

I found the same thing to be true on the NG's when I first went to
XP.....the people there just didn't seem to be interested in helping anyone.
One would get flamed to a crisp for top posting or using caps and I was
quick to learn that there were few that really knew what they were talking
about. I got more answers here with the 'family' than I ever did in the XP
NG's. I'll let you know how the wife fares with Vista....may be
interesting.
Heirloom, old and stickin' with XP

If it isn't, it should be, H.
The selections are not only free, but they are 'the best' and that's what
makes the the difference.
Thanks a million for this 'treasure'.

<snipped for brevity>

Be glad to hear your wife's experiences/opinions of vista.

Just unmunge my addy if you want a quiet conversation

BTW by "top posting" do you mean placing your reply at the top of a post? Is
it "bad" form? I can understand some folk preferring "bottom posting" to
keep chronological order going. but I was mildly castigated (painful ( )
once for doing this because it took "forever" to scroll down to my reply. Oh
well can't win them all.

She is only a year younger than me, but, she has different tastes in music.
There is some of her music that I like and she likes some of mine....it's
not like total incompatibility~! And, I'm not being 'mean',
Joanie......I'm just, admittedly, very anal about keeping my machine clean.
Were it up to her, she would surf every site on the internet and download
anything!
Heirloom, old and I cringe at the thought
P.S. I got her a 160G HD in the laptop and will get a USB HD for
backup.....any bets on how long it will take her to fill the internal HD???

I'm not taking any bets <g> my internal drive (and the external) is 80GB

It's taken 3 external HD's and 16 days since my birthday but this

She probably likes Elvis (as I do).....hard to believe he died 30 years

Must be a 'local affair', H.
I don't seem to have any problems whatsoever.
Are you running XP when it occurs?

Harry.

Heirloom

Yeah, Mike. Along with all the others. I have all their old vinyl and
really enjoy some of the 'deep cuts'....like "Flight 505" and "Girl with the
far away eyes" (the only country song ever recorded by the Stones).
"Yesterday's papers" is another good one. I even have "Sympathy for the
devil" as my cell ringtone.
Heirloom, old and must have been the
collegiate flora
