Under DOS

Under DOS, I am able to access partition "C" but not the other partitions.
How does one access the partitions (not the drives) other than "C" ?

b11:

Are the other partitions formatted as some unrecognizable type like
Linux or NTFS (or for that matter formatted at all)? Can you see the
partitions with FDISK?

They are all NTFS partitions.

MS-DOS cannot see NTFS partitions.

Exactly because it does FAT partitions --- <grin>

I think that the SysInternals DOS reader for NTFS is still available, or at
least it was last I looked. There are some other programs like it, as well.
If you can't find it, I can look in my 'diskbin' to see if I can find it.
Doesn't quite give you the same functionality, of course.

Why are you attempting to use Win9X to erase a NTFS folder?

Disk corruption?
Try Testdisk:

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download

If these can still be accessed [not free]:

Full read/write capability for NTFS from DOS is available with NTFSDOS
Professional, available as part of Winternals Administrator's Pak Read-only
capability for DOS from Windows 95/98 is available with NTFS for Windows 98.
http://www.winternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/index.asp

Full read/write capability for NTFS drives from a boot floppy is now
available in the form of ERD Commander 2003. ERD Commander 2003 is a
command-line that starts after booting off of a standard set of Windows NT
boot disks. NTFS and FAT drives can be accessed with a full suite of
standard file-related commands like move, copy, delete, and rename. Get more
information and download a free read-only version that has working rmdir and
mkdir commands here.

LINUX has several tools.

Do you mean you want to erase some or all of the contents of the partition,
or do you want to remove the partition (and therefore, of course, erase the
entire contents)?

If you want to erase a folder within the partition, you need access to the
partition from the operating system (DOS or W98) using one of the utilities
that has been mentioned here. If you want to remove the partition then you
can do it with a partition management tool, which often contain its own OS
and might not rely on an installed OS at all.

You haven't previously mentioned that you want to "_erase_ a folder", but
it's still not really clear just what you want to do.

You CAN'T erase a folder on an NTFS partition using Win9x or DOS. None of
those operating systems can even read NTFS, much less manipulate it. The
closest you can come is to delete the entire partition using FDISK (I
*think* that's possible... I forget.)

Never mind. I see that other utilities have been discussed. Whether any of
them will allow you to change the files or folders is another question.
