Thumbnails not working in Windows Explorer

K

Ken G.

Thumbnails have stopped working. The option to view thumbnails appears in
Windows Explorer but for some reason it no longer shows the thumbnails, just
an icon. It used to work and I can't think of any changes I've made that
would do this. Can anyone help?

It's a while since Thumbnail issues have been reported in the WinMe
Newsgroups, which were often caused by installing 'new' picture viewing
software. However, it may well be worth trying :-

Start | Run and type "REGSVR32 THUMBVW.DLL" at the Start>Run prompt (no
quotes and note the space after the 32) then OK.

It certainly won't do any harm - and may even fix it!

Thanks Mart. That did fix it. The only thing is there's now a small icon of
the associated graphics program in the bottom right hand corner that wasn't
there before but I can live with that.

Good to hear that re-registering the thumbvw.dll file did the trick - bit of
an old chestnut these days and thanks for the confirmation . Regarding the
graphics icon on the system tray (bottom rh corner), if it becomes an issue,
you *might* find that there is a switch to turn it off (left or right-click
on the icon). Some utilities give the option, others don't.

I have the same problem (Vista), tried the fix, and the module couldn't be
found.

O

oops!!

You are posting to a WinME (Millennium) newsgroup, "slightly" different from
Vista.

Cross posted to the Windows Vista newsgroup.

Hopefully you will get some help there.

Cheers,

Zee

And it's a while (some 2 years or more) since I wrote that reply!

However, that 'fix' applies to the WinMe (and perhaps the Win9x series)
operating system. Your problem is with the very much later Vista operating
system which uses a completely different architecture, so the fact that you
can't get it to work doesn't surprise me.

You need to address your query to one of the MS Vista News Groups - you've
come to a Windows Millennium Group.

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

Click the View tab, and then deselect the Always show icons, never thumbnails check box.
