Announce: Windows Vista SP1 Beta - Mid July

V

Victor

So some 13-yr old makes up rumors about Microsoft doing a sp release and
posts it on a blog. Wow. that is useful. I will be sure to let my dept head
know that we should plan on that coming out in november since someone posted
it on a blog.

If its in a blog it MUST be true, right?

If you point me to some place on the MS site, maybe I would "think about"
believing it. No.. I dont trust MS dates either but at least you can site it
as a "credible" source of info.

And Happy Monday!

Pretty Funny if you ask me

It's official? Very funny. I have a bridge in Arizona I'd like to sell you
:)

You take it as gospel by some pimpley headed kid that Microsoft will deliver
an SP1 Beta? I would believe it if the information was posted on the
OFFICIAL Microsoft site, but not by some teeny-bopper spreading news on his
blog. By the way, on my blog, I have information on some stocks. Care to
invest?

Re: Pretty Funny if you ask me

While I usually agree with not trusting much that is
written in most blogs, Mary Jo Foley has been around
a long time.... she's, usually, rather accurate.

Mary Jo is like any other journalist. They get their paychecks for coming up
with something different, controversial, supposedly current, and supposedly
based on "inside information" that only they know about, etc, etc.

They work on a set of odds when they make a prediction, the odds are that
they have a 50-50 chance of being right. If they aren't right, then they
have a very long list of reasons (excuses) people, entities who they will
immediately blame. If they are right, then they are a hero.

One problem is that people tend to forget, very quickly, when they are very
wrong and only remember when they happen to get it right. Another problem is
that people tend to quote a journalist based on their own beliefs, feelings,
needs, etc. It doesn't matter what it is that you want to prove, their is an
article by someone out there, somewhere that you can find and quote to
supposedly prove your point.

Have you ever noticed how every major media source always seems to post the
exact same information or story, in the same time frame? wait until this
afternoon and I'm sure you will see this same story repeated over and over
on all of the major media websites.

And then you get 1000 people who blindly blog and copy these stories without
doing even any basic research to see how true it might actually be. These
bloggers don't usually even usually even give an opinion about the story?
Why don't they just post the title with a URL?

I agree, but she has also posted other articles on this same subject that
had different information, supposedly based on inside information.

What's the deal with Vista Service Pack 1?:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=122

Vista SP1 is due in the second half of 2007, after all:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=208

Of course, this IS the second half of 2007, right? :)

That's how rumors start. One person says something, and others pick up
on it.

It's still a rumor until Microsoft announces it in a press or
preferrably online on /THEIR/ site somewhere. Then it's a little more
trustworthy.
