Hi all, after a couple of test, please let me describe what is going on:
1- We try to monitor some Terminal Services performance counters, but the
counters do not show in perfmon to be monitored.
2- We were guessing that the performance counters were not installed/enabled
for the windows 2000 TS servers, so we used the perfmon utility that comes
with every windows 2000/2003/2008 server and then tried to create our own
monitor for the following values:
\Terminal Services\Active Sessions
\Terminal Services\Total Sessions
3- We found that these counters do not appear in any of the windows 2000 TS
servers (4 in total).
4- we went to another windows server, but this time a windows 2003 server
that has terminal services installed. The counters are there.
5- We went back to the windows 2000 TS servers and ran the resource kit
utility called Exctrlst. The Extensible Performance Counter box now lists all
of the performance counters installed on the TS computer. In this case, the
Terminal Services service, TermService service and its DLL, Perfts.dll, do
appear in the list. This indicates that Terminal Services performance
counters are installed on the TS computer.
6- We then ran another resource kit utility, typeperf, with the following
command:
C:\typeperf "\Terminal Services\Active Sessions"
The above command returned an "unknown" performance counter. So this means
the counter cannot be read.
I would like to know how can i install/resintall or enable these counters so
i can monitor them with perfmon and other utilities.
Many thanks,
Erick.
